I read a little about emo music from one of the links, then followed a link to indie rock, and was at least familiar with it since I often listen to a streaming radio station from Seattle that plays indie rock while I work.

So I take it that big hair and tight striped pants, ala Quiet Riot ca. 1984, is no longer in?

I'm still trying to figure out goth... There's a couple of kids at my job who dress "goth." Every time one particular girl gets near me, I feel like I should be wearing a rope of braided garlic around my neck... (shudder)

goth is different from emo in their mindset... they may dress similar but its because emo developed from a goth kid who was openly depressed...
goth is basically people with a darker mindset... i consider myself goth because of the things that amuse me... i listen to dark music i have the occasional dark thought and when i write stories the main character and the entire story will be fairly dark... while i don't dress it (yet) thats mostly because of the situation i was in at home...
emo kids just dress dark and think they are dark when they just think about how life sucks.. they are some of the few people who actually get depressed about the fact that life sucks... goths on the other hand... don't give a shit...
if you feel like having a necklace of garlic around you when you work with her... then i think she is doin a damn good job...
