What happened to gay.com?

I used to meet a lot of people on gay.com. Hookups or dating sometimes, but a lot of it was just finding interesting people to talk to. I got busy with other things so I didn't log on for a while after early 2008. I came back recently and all the rooms were nearly empty, where you used to have to queue just to get in (granted, a few of the screen names filling the rooms were bots, but still). My first thought was that some competitor came along and a lot of people jumped ship for that, but asking around, I didn't find any other gay sites that had picked up a ton of members.

Locally a lot of the gay clubs have changed ownership and clientele and online, the other sites like manhunt and adam seem to be focused just on hooking up. Nothing wrong with that, I just had more of a variety of people to talk to on a more general site. Those of you who used to use gay.com a lot but aren't now, what sites with chat rooms are you using to meet other gay guys if any?

I used gay.com in 2007 and enjoyed it. However, I didn't find my boyfriend on there. I went to a site called www.clubsilver.org, which is for older/younger relationships. I only keep in touch with a few guys I met off gay.com now.

If I were single again I'd try www.silverdaddies.com and perhaps www.okcupid.com. Someone spoke of Compatible Partners, which is the gay version of eHarmony and I used to see Chemistry.com commericals, but I don't see them as much now.

Generally I get my gay social needs met by JUB and my boyfriend's friends, as well as one of my friends from high school.

i was just talking to someone about this, not gay.com in particular, but the fact that there are no options for friendly, non sexual gay/bi chit chat online. i've found making friends on hookup sites doesn't work and i've tried. i can have 30 people lined up to suck my dick on any number of sites but having an intelligent conversation is next to impossible. i actually joined this site because there's some substance to the discussions but no real time chat, right?

Gay.com is literally a wasteland now. I logged in last week after about 4 years of no activity; it's hilarious how I used to click endless to try to get into a room, and now there are barely 3 people in the damn thing.

Like someone said above, I get my intellectual fix from JUB, but a cock craving is for all those other sites. There's truly no middle ground.
