What happened to the good old 80's porn style?

When I watch modern-day porn, I often cringe at the uber-clean look of the guys and the rather repetative sex they have, but when I watch porn from the early 80's I melt.

I don't know what it is, but I wish they'd bring back the golden age of gay porn, where the guys are built just right, the clothes are tight and gone in a blink and the sex is real.

What do you think?

what makes ME cringe is how gross some of those early porn guys were. i do tend to prefer alot of the "average-joe" guys in porn to the overly polished "pretty boys", but some of those guys--like Ron Jeremy....

yea i agree. 90s porn is pretty good too. today's porn is so shitty in comparison. i think studios treat it too much look a hollywood movie shoot with tons of hair and makeup. they put so much effort in lighting and getting tons of positions and camera angles. they forget the whole point of porn is hot sex. in the end most of today's porn is so robotic. it looks like porn sex. older porn looked like sex you'd have at home.

physically guys didn't look like they spent all day at the gym. they had natural physiques from hard work and sports.

did you also notice in older porn you couldn't really tell if the guys were gay or straight? they all seemed like regular horny guys. i think today's porn stars get too caught up in being stars and being famous

I do not watch much porn but the movies I have seen by Cadinot are what I like. No 15 minutes of "Suck my balls", and endless rimming. It is "hello, get your gear off and into it." And the guys are great too!

The good news is that the classic gayporn titles from the 80's and 90's are still available .... and the best news is that many of them have been transferred to DVD. ..|

More than half of my collection comes from the 80's and 90's, including titles from Falcon/Jocks/Mustang directed by Bill Clayton, Steven Scarborough and John Rutherford. I like the early works of William Higgins, John Summers and Matt Sterling too. Oh, and like Ramindra, I'm a big fan of JD Cadinot as well! *|*

Don't you mean old 70's porn? I think the late 80's were the beginning of the slick production adult videos because the home video market and VCRs had been proven to be a lucrative market.

What really was "lost" in my opinion in the 80's 90's was the "fun" / "party" aspect of guys having sex with other guys. I think what Bel Ami is now famous for was in American Gay Videos in the 70's / 80's but was "muscled out" by the bigger gay video companies that were marketing a certain "look".

It seems to me that the online gay websites that are popular now are presenting a certain look very different from what the big gay video companies were presenting.

In some sense, the new wawe of 'big budget' überclean und übereverything porns are self-defeating. Most guys watch porn, because they would want to see themselves with one or more of such dudes in similar, real-life situtations. The little imperfections were there to remind you that, it was all real and yeah, it was possible (if not that very probable...).

With all the high-tech and robotic action much of the identification of the audience with their flicks was gone and we are experiencing the rise of web-based smaller producers, who are more down-to-earth and more realistic, thus easier for us to identify with.

Apparently both trends (and a few subtrends) have their loyal audiences and command sufficient market shares to stay in business. The consumer is left with a great choice... So, you go for what you like...

I'm not sure if I agree ... nothing wrong with watching perfection (or close to it!) I'm glad the studios look out for, and employ, the hotest men for their movies.

A mainstream Hollywood producer was once asked why the big studios selected the best looking film stars for their major productions rather than the ordinary "guy or gal next door" .... to which he replied "Movies are a fantasy and people demand the best examples of manhood and womanhood we can find. If they wanted to see the 'ordinary guy or gal next door' ..... they'd go next door!!!"

I like the older stuff purely because I'm tired of seeing all these 'perfect' specimens that are shaved to within an inch of their lives, have pecs bigger than Dolly Parton's tits and a camp voice the likes of which Quentin Crisp would have been proud!

Its all well and good them saying that people want 'fantasy', but a little dose of reality wouldn't go amiss!

I like the older porn also because of the boy next door looks of the dudes. Unfortunately, most of those dudes have died of Aids or committed suicide. And, they didn't shave or trim their bushes.
