  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What is something you regret buying?

A McDonalds Fish Sandwich

One bite and I spit it out and threw the rest away.

I haven't eaten at McD for years - now I remember why.

My house.

It's been a money pit. I honestly thought it was in better shape than it was when I bought it. Although I have peace every time I pull in the drive because of the beautiful lot and large trees, I have not entertained since moving here, which is not like me, and I've become somewhat isolated. I'm looking forward to getting out of it and starting anew without the problem of being ashamed of my home.

I'm ok with having made the mistake. Lots of people have done the same. We make the best decision we can when we buy. Mine got worse because almost every single contractor or hired helper has been a crook and a thief.

/\ @ crooks and thieves

I'd imagine that the pandemic hit the home repair shysters really hard. The only thing worse than a crook is a desperate crook. Like the monsters under the bed, you can't even let them see you see them. :)

~ Speaking of the pandemic; the autumn before COVID-19 arrived I read that the price of tires was expected to rise significantly, so even though I didn't really need them, I bought 4 new tires for my SUV. I haven't driven anywhere since, so my SUV has about 3 more years depreciation accumulated and the tires are collecting dust on a rack in the garage.

Thanks. Huntsville is in a boom towm phase, so quite the opposite here. Any jack-o-napes who will show up calls himself a builder, and the pressure is on when trying to get anyone who has actual skill.

I bet your tires see good use yet.

I can't think of anything I regret buying.

I regret not buying a number of things, generally houses and other properties that at the time seemed too expensive and/or needed too much work. I also regret not buying a set of six 19th century Neapolitan gouaches of Mt. Vesuvius erupting that at the time I also thought were too expensive.

Anything that says Sony on it.

That "remote control" ghost from the back page of the comic book when I was a kid.

Plastic sheeting and a string. Eeeeeeerie.

I have several thousands of dollars worth of equipment that I bought for my lawn care company that never really made a profit. I have had to learn to keep it simple.
