Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing a new laptop for trading options and forex. The laptop can range between 1000-2000, although this is not set in stone. It has to be dependable, no crash, reliable, fast, secure.

Any recommend?

Thanks.(!)

Anything from a netbook to a desktop will work for that.
What you need is a cast iron connection.

The laptop can range between 1000-2000, although this is not set in stone. It has to be dependable, no crash, reliable, fast, secure.

You should consider a Mac, especially in your price range.

I have two friends who are day traders and they both use MacBook Pros. One of them uses Mac OS exclusively, the other switches constantly between Mac and Windows.

If you're not comfortable going the Mac route, there are plenty of good quality Windows boxes that will serve you well. My personal preference is for Sony Vaio - well built and configured. Asus also get consistently high user satisfaction ratings.

At work, we use lenovo laptops. I personally dont recommend them (since IBM sold it off and it has become lowgrade china PCs). As others have pointed out, you mostly need a lightning fast internet connect and an OK laptop.

A decent PC is necessary especially for streaming content but I would not spend more than $1200 on one.

I have the MediaCom. It's a cable company. So not worry too much on the connection. Thanks for recommending. Narrowing down my choices between Sony Vaio and MacBook Pro. Thanks. I will use Metatrader4 and Oada FXgame interchangeably.

Either laptop will be ok for the use you're proposing. What you should be comparing is weight and battery life assuming you will use it on the go. You should also be comfortable with the keyboard, trackpad and screen.

I wouldn't go below 15" if I were you and it's more than adequate.

I would get the most ram possible first and then up the hard drive before getting a larger screen, but if the budget allows and battery autonomy isn't a factor, then go for the 17" one.
