Hey I need some advice on a new laptop or I-pad. I am so sick of Microsoft I know I want to go to a Mac. So you know I need a laptop or Ipad for mainly creating and storing documents, being able to scan and save and to be able to print. Really only need Word & Xcel. This is for work not fun stuff so no games, videos and all that.
Will an I-Pad work for me? I generate a lot of docs and like a conventional keypad for that. I have never fooled with an I-Pad so I don't know how well they type. Your help is appreciated!

First piece of advice: go to your local Apple Store and play with the iPad 2 as well as the laptops they have. Since you said you like to work with conventional keyboards, I'm going to steer you to a laptop, and since it's for work (mainly documents, Excel, etc), I would go with teh MacBook Air.

Thanks SexyGuy! I will do that as soon as I can.

I've been playing--and I mean playing--with an iPad and I would never buy one. This one was a loaner, and I think it just a notch or two above a toy. Look at the laptops. You cannot beat a Mac laptop.

Go for a MacBook or if you can splurge a MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Air, while a nifty device, is limited as far as ports go and it's got no optical drive.

You can buy a little conventional keyboard plug in for the iPad. I would say look into probably getting a MacBook Air. iPad's are great! And they'll do what you stated, but maybe a laptop is just best. Get an iPad when you also want to use some of the neat other fun features.

If you want to save a bunch of money, rick, don't buy anything.

Just install Linux Mint on your existing PC. No Microsoft, no Apple, no cost, no hassle.

I just switched from a pc to a Macbook Pro a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it.

There's a large computer "super store" called Microcenter. I got mine there for about $300 less than what the Apple store had it listed for. The closest one I see to you is in Houston, but I believe you can buy them online too.
