Warning: Rant ahead. :grrr:

The first thing I realized when I joined this place is just how huge it is. JUB has what, a bajillion members give or take a thousand? I expected this place to have a humongous array of members consisting of all the different types of Internet posters. There's the dumbasses, the spammers, the people on here for the porn, the lonely guys, the intellectuals, the trolls, and everything else under the sun. I expected a large population of all of these things.

Let me clarify something before I go any further: This place is pretty cool. Nice enough people with a layed-back setting.

But hey - there's something crazy wrong here. Yeah, I get that this is a gay forum and all... But do you think that maybe the Debate area could talk about something other than gay marriage issues? Seriously guys, what the fuck? Is there anything to really debate about it on here or do we all just like to gather together and have this circle-jerk / cryfest about how we can't get legally married to one another in the US. There's no variety, there's no real topics being discussed in an intellectual manner.

Despite the fact that this sticky says that it's a place for serious discussion and not supposed to be a news-ticker for all the shit you get on MSNBC, that's all it is! People make the shittiest posts ever with things like, "I think he's cute" and a picture of Apu from the Simpsons.

Just exactly WHAT is gained? Nothing. There's apparently no such thing as a real debate thread in there.

Sorry guys, but JUB appears only to be good for idle chit-chat and porn. I like you guys, I really do, but it seems like I've gotta go elsewhere just to get a descent talk about Reaganomic repercussions or ending piracy in Somalia... Or anything else of actual interest.

I think this is more a case of the pot calling the kettle black. If you want to talk about Reaganomic repercussions or ending piracy in Somalia why don't you start threads on those subjects?

You are new here, have precious few posts, and here is a finer selection of the threads you've participated in...

Butter or Margarine?
Batman Bruce will be retired or killed off
baggy pants
Animal obsession
Quantum of Solace: Your Review Here
Lisa Left-Eye Lopez's New Album

There are doctors, lawyers, professors, pilots, and all kinds of intellectual juggernauts lurking around these threads. If you start an interesting conversation, maybe you will get back some interesting responses ;)

You are somehow mixing the CE&P forum with the rest. And yeah .. piracy in Somalia actually *would* be a more interesting topic for CE&P .. american politics can get pretty boring fast ;)

The problem is that some people don't come here to be informed or to discuss, they come here to share their wealth of knowledge with the uninformed masses. If they encounter someone with different opinions/information/facts, they resort to name-calling. All they want is to be agreed with, told how smart/great they are, and flirted with.

HEY!! Nothing wrong with THAT.

Now, you'll either agree with me or I'll feed you with Mr.Barbley's cock. Your life, your choice.

I'm prepared for this response.

I am actually planning a few threads for the debate section but I'm honestly not sure if it is worth putting the effort into it. I went through the first 6 pages of Debate and did not find a single thread of interest. It seems like whatever I might make would just end up getting a few crappy responses, maybe a YouTube link or two, and if I'm very lucky, one good response that never receives any follow-up. Maybe if I pray hard enough, I'll get a heated response from someone that bases their arguments entirely on logical fallacies.

...But I guess I won't know if I don't try, right?

Here's the thing that makes me mad that I am pointing out in this thread: The stickied thread makes Debate out to be a very nice place to have a real, intense, intellectual conversation. It claims that news-ticker threads won't be tolerated and that people NEED to post on topic. The fact of the matter is that the opposite is true in both cases.

I have to disagree completely with the OP. I've been on many other forums and I've seen more interesting and intellectual discussions here than almost anywhere else.

There's apparently no such thing as a real debate thread in there.

Well, we'll just have to remedy this won't we. So, what would you like to discuss. I love a good debate.:gogirl:

*patiently awaits for Axehand's informative, cogent, and lively "debate type topic" thread*

This is the messageboard version of "I go to gay clubs, but nobody comes over and talks with me."

It's decent, not descent. ..|

If you want to be taken seriously, especially in forums like CE&P, which your post history shows that you've only posted in twice since joining on November 13, 2008, spelling is key. ;)

Speaking of diversity, there are more than a few of your fellow JUBbers that are related to the Evangelical Lutheran Chuch in your area that share the same IP Address.

Perhaps you could get together and have a debate with them.

Since I only live an hour away from him, perhaps he'd be interested in debating me! :-<

Thank you centexfarmer, I always love when grammar Nazis believe that a simple misspelling of ONE word means that any points made are any less valid. Congrats - you win everything.

As for the people with the same IP addy, I happen to know one of them. Thing is, our network is (I suppose) affiliated with the Lutheran Church only by proxy. Furthermore, every single time I turn on my computer (or he turns on his), we get a new IP address. If you run a thorough IP check you'd notice that it's the same physical addresses.

The first of my threads:

(Doh! I put it in the wrong section. Can a mod move it please?)

Another thread.

I'd say it's AndrewD 2.0. A sober AndrewD with more coherence, organized thoughts, and a better vocabulary.

A better vocab, but still used incorrectly. And really, why do people feel the need to write out long winded paragraphs when they can get their point/ question across in one sentence? And why use .50 cents words when a .10 center will do?

That's not what I meant by the Andrew D. comparison though. They both ask long winded, philosophical questions, that have no answer to them. Basically, "What came first the chicken or the egg." Of course, there's obviously nothing wrong w/ that and I apologize if my Andrew D. comparison came off bitchy. :(

I had assumed that Axehand was looking for a discussion on politics, current events, economics, education, science, law, policy, or anything of this sort. I'll admit, I don't philosophize. ;)

Oh my goodness, Alpha! I didn't realize that changing up certain words to use ones that have a better exact meaning is such a bad thing. Thankfully you came along and told me exactly how introducing a variety of words into a paragraph to actually make a sentence interesting. Now that you point it out, I probably should dumb down my paragraphs even more and just use "double not good" instead of "horrifying." (As in, your penchant for being aggressively inarticulate is double not good.)

And yes, obviously my philosophical quandaries are completely pointless and have no REAL answers, right? What's in your head and why does it have such a calliphygian physique? (Heh.) If you cannot understand what I am asking then I am more than glad to explain it to you.

I appreciate nice vocabularies vs. "Ha ha ha LOLz u lyk me 2?" anyday, but sometimes you can tell when people are just trying to prove something (not thatI get that vibe from Axe).

Really? To quote, "I believe that the mind is an abstract way of looking at the brain as more than the sum of its components." Come on.

Not that I'm perfect by any means. You should read my posts in the techie section. They're are filled w/ intelligent discourse such as, "I clicked on some sort of box," "I bought a thingie," and, "What is ram?" !oops!

Not to mention the fact that most jokes go right over my head. !oops!

I love the way Lex expresses himself!! He gets his point across w/o making enemies. It's very impressive!!
