What the hell are these big birds that are flying above our neighborhood all the time!

Been seeing them a lot lately. Came home yesterday seeing 3 eating a rabbitt.20230331_185204.png
 
After very careful examination of those pictures and consulting with an Ornithologist. We concluded that they are Turkey vultures or the smaller buzzard.

Not fair.

Sniffing vultures have been following you for years.
 
We have a group of them every year on the farm.

Last year it was 4 of them and they would perch on the ridge of the barn and eye me lovingly whenever I went out to work in the garden or out in the fields.
 
Now that you know what they are.... don't drop dead, you will be gone.

That's the strangest fence I've seen in a long, long time.

It doesn't look decorative.

It has a bottom rail, which will rot quickly.

It has slats affixed on the outside of the surround, so can't be used for cattle or horses.

It's climbable by dogs, goats, children and others, so not containment for them.

The posts are not capped, implying this is not rural, as posts rot from the top, even quicker when birds perch and poop there.

The posts extend far enough above the rails to imply an electric fence may have been intended, or later decommissioned.

They are probably sizing you up to see if you can "take them" before they get away with your cats!
 
Turkey vulture soup has a nice ring to it.
 
So I think these three have returned to our farm....we have the Tres Amigos back perching on the barn this weekend.
