I drive a school bus for Fort Smith Public Schools. While I am stoped to unload or to load (stop sign out with flashing RED lights and flashing RED lights in frount and back of the bus), drevers will pass the bus without stoping. All cars, trucks and what every are to stop until the bus is moving again. So far none of my childran have been hurt. ](*,) :grrr: :help:

That is dangerous and illegal...those boneheads need to be turned in
Get license numbers....

Get in touch with the sheriff's office or the police department, which ever applies in the area you drive. They might want to do something. You might need to okay it with your supervisor. Passing a school bus, while they are stopped to load or unload, is a horrible thing to do. A kid's life is worth more than the little bit of time that is gained by passing. If people would think of each child as his own, they wouldn't be doing that.

Yeah here in California they stop when the flashing lights appear on the bus, you should talk to somebody about that.

I have a 6 yr old little girl and I would personally fuck up somebody if I saw them blow by a school bus. I FUCKIN HATE how impatient humans can be. ARGGGG!!!! People infuriate me!

](*,)

Please do something about this, either go to your supervisor or get the authorities involved.

Hmm, correct me if I'm missing something, but are you saying that in the USA, when a school bus pulls to the side of the road to let kids on or off it is illegal to overtake?

Isn't that just a tad overcautious? Are American kids so dumb that they can't be trusted to keep to the pavement and not dive headlong into the traffic the moment they leave the safety of their bus?

How about teaching them a little road sense? Of course other drivers should take care around school busses but to have to stop just on the off chance that a kid might just not know the safe way to cross the road is too much. If your kid is too young to deal with the road, meet them off the bus and take care of them. If your kid is old enough to cross the road and know the dangers then there should be no problems.

It certainly is...in the State of Oregon (as it should be)

Yes, it is illegal.

BTW - Our school buses are (usually) BRIGHT YELLOW and have BIG FLASHING RED LIGHTS for use when picking-up or dropping off kids.

As for the original problem - bring a camcorder to work.

Nothing is quite as convincing as video evidence...

Yes - I think in almost all states (it may vary from state to state), if the bus is flashing RED lights, it is illegal to overtake, from any direction. That means that even traffic approaching from the other direction must stop. If there are 4 lanes of traffic, (2 lanes going each way), then all 4 lanes must come to a dead stop. For sure that is the law in Washington State.

I notice traffic in opposing lanes often just fly right past the bus, even though they're not supposed to do so.

If the bus is only flashing it's YELLOW lights, you can overtake it.

Holding up traffic like that here in parts of za would get you shot by our lawless minibus taxi drivers... these guys have the right of way, you see. And the left of way, and any other way they want, including the sidewalks, traffic islands and the oncoming traffic lanes. Complete anarchy, I tell you.
