It seems like every third movie is a sequel nowadays.

Why is that? I mean can't anyone come up with something Original anymore?

That's been the case for a while now. Sequels or remakes, or sequels of remakes. Usually it's the indepentdents and non-hollywood films that are original now, and even then there's not a load of them. Movies are getting fairly generic.

Sequels and remakes have a proven track record, and a built-in fan base.

Take a movie like "Wanted". I really know nothing about it - it may be good, it may be bad. Who's gonna see it? Action fans, presumably. Now take a movie like "Iron Man". Who's gonna see it? Action fans...AND comic book fans. You've instantly added to your take. And how about "Spiderman 3"? Action fans, comic fans, and a lot of the people who saw the first one.

The key is to increase the number of people who are likely to see your film. Remakes and sequels do that without even having to try. :)

Sequels seem quaint now. Enter the land of the REMAKE. With the "success" of the new Hulk movie, remakes are even hotter than ever. Watch for remakes, remakes, remakes.

You thought sequels of Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elmstreet would never end? Well, they have. Now its time to REMAKE them baby.

And then you get the Sequels to the remakes! First one up Dawn of the Dead 2 (based on the remake).

Apparently original ideas = comic books (see Wanted, 300) so if you want something new for a movie it has to put in a comic book first.

You know we can blame Hollywood and it's lack of creativity until we're blue in the face but obviously if they continue to be remade and we realize it's all about money then they clearly realize we're willing to give it to em.

How do you stop someone from taking all your money? You don't give it to them!
