When do you hang your Christmas lights?

I usually don't start decorating until the first week of December, and even then I just slowly put things out and never really finish until about a few days before Christmas...

I usually put up my tree the weekend after Christmas. I'm going to buy some poinsettias to put on the mantel above the fireplace.

I've been getting earlier and earlier every year. When I was young, my mother used to trim our windows with lights on my birthday, Dec. 14. But for years I did it right after Thanksgiving. Now, I'll do it a week or two before that -- on any nice day. I just won't light them until after Thanksgiving.

Tomorrow's supposed to be the "official" beginning of the Christmas (read: "Xmas") holiday "season."

When do you deck your halls?
You can call it X mas. I call it Christmas. I don't hang lights, just low. But I might deck the balls with houghs of holly, uh no errr I'm gay no hollies for me... um deck the balls with thoughts of latinos .

The decorations go up after December 11 (my Daddy's birthday, and family tradition prevents his birthday from being overshadowed by Christ's), but really whenever my uncle brings us the tree, which lately has been about a week before the day. They come down January 1 because I hate them by then... actually, I hate them on Boxing Day but the Grandmother enjoys them, so I leave them for her sake.

But I don't do outside decor. We don't have any electrical outlets out there, and I'll be damned if I'm going to rig up extension cords from the garage all the way to the front lawn, then climb up on a ladder and risk my neck hanging shit off the gutters in the middle of Winter. I have better things to do with my time... like lay in bed and complain.
