No, it's not odd at all. Sometimes guys don't get hired again because they aren't reliable, for example if they show up very late or don't show up at all for a shoot while crew is waiting. Sometimes guys could be drama queens when the camera doesn't roll or many many other reasons... Maybe he didn't like it and quit.
