Do you like Christmas or Haloween best?
I like Christmas, because here in Brazil Halloween is not celebrated.

PS I mispelled Holyday (should be Holiday, but I just cannot edit)

Party whores say Halloween is far more fun (there´s been a fad in Spain for Halloween parties for the past few years, and it´s kids who celebrate it like adults, not the other way round, like another Carnival, just like for Christmas tide they are given gifts by both Santa Claus and the Three Magi), but even my parents hardly celebrate Christmas (in fact we hardly celebrate anything at all, not even birthdays, anniversaries or good news): the closest to "celebration" we ever have is getting together some evening every now and then, mainly during summer holidays.

I said neither because I hate the commercialism of Christmas and the expectaions that go with it. Halloween is a pagan festival and it seems strange that such a supposedly christian religious country such as the US should make such a fuss about it. In the UK we accnowledge it but don't go over the top. I prefer the Easter weekend where the commercialism has really only extended to chocolate and that is not ridgidly enforced, plus you always get 4 days holiday in a row because it is always on a Sunday. Funny how he is always born on the same date and yet dies on the same day each year regardless of date ie. the Sunday after the first Full Moon after the vernal equinox on march 21st.

Well, Halloween is out because we don't officially celebrate it ... in many quarters, including schools it is banned. Christmas is becoming a bit commercial ... it is October and already the Christmas decorations are up in some of the stores. Christmas is more for the kids I think.

I much prefer Melbourne Cup Day .... it is when almost everyone is involved in celebrations around the famous horse race .... whilst it is the richest horse race in the world, it is often just the excuse for the parties, barbecues and social soirees.(!)

Ok, with respect to Christmas and that poll up to now, it seems there are two kinds of people: those who like Christmas and those who don´t.
EDIT: Ha! Someone just screw that diagnosis, it was taking long!

Pretty limited list.

I'd choose Samhain and Beltaine. ;)

(Although the Christians 'repurposed' Samhain from the Celts to create Halloween).

For me, neither mean much, but for the kids:

1. At Christmas they get a ghost story.

2. At Halloween I read them a ghost or monster story.

3. Er. . . that's it.

Christmas is out and away my favorite:
  • Cold weather, even snow if we're lucky
  • Buying presents for my family and friends
  • Midnight Eucharist on Christmas Eve
  • Food!
  • Christmas cards--- and the opportunity to renew old friendships

I love "the Christmas holiday season", there are several holy holidays that time fo year :D.

Halloween is a close 2nd though ;)

My mom buys a lot of candy for Halloween after our house was egged one time when we didn't have any (she thinks it's because we didn't give out candy, I'm pretty sure my "best friend" went off and egged the fag's house). So we always have a lot left over, because hardly anyone goes out for Halloween in my area compared to what it was like when I was little.

I prefer Christmas. It's longer, better food, guests, freedom from school, and Halloween doesn't bring with it any "holiday" feeling. On the other hand, for me, Halloween turns out to be All Saints Day instead and that just means walking around cemetaries, which is kind of depressing.
