OK, so I'm going to be live streaming an event that is coming up and the problem that I had last year was that I couldn't go very far, because the webcam I was using had a short cord and other issues. Are there any cams that are wifi and wireless. Would one of those security cameras they sell at Walmart or Best Buy would work to live stream this event or would I just have to stick with the webcam to do the live stream.

live streaming what kind of event? do you need audio as well?

Don't use a webcam. Get a video capture device and use a real video camera.

Like Corny said, what kind of event?

It is a fundraiser where people will be playing different kinds of sports to raise money for cancer. We want to stream it live on ustream like we did last year, but because of the equipment we have we couldn't fully be all over the football field. Yes, we do need audio and the picture has to be some what clear. If we go withe video capture device would we be able to use ustream to broadcast live and any video camera will work with the video capture device.

If you don't need too HD then using phones could be the answer. They can stream direct to ustream or many have apps that will enable them to act as webcams to a computer.

Using phones did come up, but 1) the battery would not last long and 2) using that much data would really be a big NO-NO. Don't want to use all my data up in one afternoon. So, the plan will probably be the same as last year. Using the webcam and the laptop together.

Of course I meant the phone would be connected by wifi or bluetooth not GPRS! I have my phone set up as a webcam on my computer using wifi and I can always plug the phone into a charger if I need to use it for long periods.
