I Love IKEA!!!

I've only been to the Houston store, but I loved roaming around in there. :)

I've always wanted to visit the store. I saw commercials for it lots back when I was in Houston growing up. Now there's not one around. I never thought I would buy much there due to the "assembly." Sometimes its fascinating, but mostly I suck at it.

ikea is good for fast furnishing (such as when the fat bastard and I broke up and I had to furnish my whole condo on my own

not stuff you want to keep forever but is better than the thrift stores

oh and the stores are designed like humanhabitrails!

i like ikea i just wish there was one convinient for me to get too... especially since i intend to move out soon

I am an IKEA addict. I have been told on more than one occassion that my apartment looks like an IKEA catalogue....is that a bad thing?

Oh my! I think I'm in love. :D

Visited IKEA on the east coast often when I lived there..a great place. I disagree that the stuff is for short term use and not long term. Even the KD stuff is better than O'Sullivan etc. I moved with no store near me and IKEA is easy to do mail order, either on the phone or thru the internet.

Every time I go my local IKEA in Melbourne I get lost.

Me too! It's a horrible place - last time I was there I got completely confused, couldn't find my shopping companions, and ended up wandering around until I found the exit, and waiting there. Never been back.

We're usually in Ikea a couple of times each year. Great place to stock up on candles!

i got lost in the ikea in Burbank but thats mostly cause i was 8...

I like the concept of IKEA and think that it is good to use to furnish for college dorms and offices. But as for using it for my home, other than the home office, I like to get furniture that is a little nicer in quality.

I worked for them as a cashier for a month. Didn't work out.

I love them. I'm going shopping there for my new place. Woot! :D

i too like the ikea concept, and their kitchens look tempting...but i just don't get off on furniture made of particle board and old soda cans. i have bought some things from them, mostly book cases and home organization boxes (the expedit model is the hero of my home office, it weighs a ton!!!) but yes, they sell out of anything you want and if they have it, you wait forever for them to haul it from the stock room.
i do find it irksome, atleast at my ikea in carson, that you have to take an elevator to the 3rd floor then walk all the way through down to the first floor to check out. you can't just go where you want, they corral you through.

We finally got one in Dallas and I love it. I've bought primarily kitchen things there and some inexpensive folding chairs. I need to get some bookshelves for my home office and I'll get them there. I don't think I'd buy upholstered furniture there, though, for I think it all looks cheap. If I was still in college or a recent grad, it would be a good source for furnishing an apartment cheaply knowing you'd throw it all away once you could afford good stuff. A friend redid his kitchen with all IKEA cabinetry and loves it.

Our fitted kitchen is Ikea. It was here when we moved in and seems to be reasonably well made (as well made as particle board cupboards can be) though the previous owners didn't do a great job of installing it.

We have bought a few things there since then - the most recent being a new dining table and chairs. They look and feel very solid, and I'm sure will last us for years.

In UK stores you collect the stuff from the warehouse shelves yourself - no waiting for someone to fetch it for you. There are people there to help if neeed too.

The nearest one to us is in Cardiff, and the only problem is trying to find space in the car park (which is underneath the store).

I know they have nice looking stuff, but the quality just doesn't seem to be there.

That's the way they are in the U.S., too. I've been to two IKEA stores in the U.S. (Chicago and Dallas) and both are huge (Chicago store is bigger than the Dallas store, though). The ground floor is like a warehouse with tall shelving with all the merchandise stacked, unassembled, and something like 30+ checkouts. It's somewhat overwhelming but organized at the same time.

I think it's interesting to compare how the same stores do things in different countries, especially since they probably modify them to meet local markets.
