Why did we come out gay not straight?

It's discussed from time to time. I'm in favor of it being genetic. More nature than nuture. But I think the real question is "who cares?" I mean, nobody has a problem with me liking cartoons or Italian food or mystery novels. Nobody asks, "Why is that? Did your mother not give you enough Italian food? Were mystery novels forbidden in your home? Did you lack a strong cartoon role model as achild?" So why should guys be any different?

all i can say is that i was born this way-attracted to other males, or gay, and i have no answer as to the question why i was born this way...it is the way it is.
this was not a choice for me. because if it were a choice then i would have chosen to be straight.
 
I don't really know why, but I don't believe that it's anything that I ever had any control over.

Ultimately, while the question remains interesting, knowing the answer, whatever it is, won't change anything.

Won't it? Say it's some sort of thing that happens in vitro. And further, say it's changeable. In other words, assume one can determine whether or not a person will end up being homosexual while still in the womb. Do you change it? Should parents have the right to change it?

I'm not saying this IS the case, or taking a stance either way. But should this come to pass, then yes, it WILL change things.

I think gays are God's way of making sure there is some fabulousness in the world. Could you imagine a world with only straight males? Lord have mercy, there'd be no Broadway, no mens fashion, no womens fashion for that matter, lol, nobody to help your neighborhoods property values go up, nobody to beautify a once depressed area of any big city and make it chic to live there. This world would be a mess. Although, if there were no gays we wouldnt have to deal with that annoying fashion critic kujo or whatever his name is on E!. lol.
 
For the longest time I believed that it was just how things were. I was born this way and there wasn't anything I could do about it. But if it was genetic, wouldn't there be more homosexual relatives? Because as far as I know, I don't know any others than myself. Or am I thinking too much along the lines of a genetic make up for homosexuality and not some biochemical abnormality?

I'm starting to believe that it's more environmentally controlled. That is to say, that we are born as blank canvases and our sexual identity is molded by how we were raised. My sister and I are similar in the fact that we both have had an emotionally deprived relationship with our father which has caused us to seek that male affection and attention somewhere else. While that could explain the emotional attraction towards men, I don't think it does for the sexual attraction.

Whatever it is, I've grown to like who I am. I don't feel that need to hide anymore and I can just be myself. It feels nice not having to suppress my feelings.
 
I blame religion.

Also the fact human reproduction centers entirely on the need for a male and female to mate - things that are done/seen so often become the set ways, therefore the need to not justifiy yourself as straight is not needed as its seen as natural, as its developed over millions of years... or if you read the bible, god did it in a day. There has never been any human benefit for being gay especially in the past, nowadays we have Madonna and soap operas. :kiss:
 
I think of it as part physical, part social. Obviously gays and lesbians have mental and physical cues that turn them on to the same sex, so in that sense, our bodies are wired for us to like men or in the case of bisexuals, either sex. But I also believe in the social aspects of sexuality ("I like guys with bigger shoulders" or "I like waify twinks").

I mean I've got an identical twin brother and hes straight and im gay.

What makes us gay? Not a clue! Is it fair? Hell no!! But since we cant do jack about it might as well just try and get on with life :)
 
I'm a Psych major and the major consensus amongst researchers is that homosexuality is mainly result of genetic influence. I think it has to do with the hypothalamus being smaller in gay men, or so they say. There are a lot of reasons also supporting environmental factors as well, so I don't think we'll be solving the mysteries of why gay vs. straight here.

D'uh...your twin is one of the cases that proves the point. Your nurture was likely identical, but you are not genetic clones. There is enough difference in genetic coding in many sets of twins to allow variations in behaviour.

...and what the fuck isn't fair about it? If you're running around feeling sorry that you turned out gay and your bro is straight, you just aren't doing enough with what you were given. Straight guys should be so lucky to be gay.

Don't ever buy into behaviourist crap. If you do, you'll think there is a 'cure' for whatever influences 'made' you gay. There isn't.

But we are genetic clones, identical twins is the same egg that split after it was fertilised. He was arrested a few months back and had the whole DNA taken and everything, because our DNA is the same I could in effect commit a serious crime and he would now be arrested.
So how can our genetic makeup be responsible for us being gay?
 
homosexuality is gods way of letting truly gifted people succeed without the burden of children- i have heard that line.... i do love kids tho
 
I think i came out gay because the first genitalia i saw as a infant was a penis after that day i was hooked on penis.(pun on hooked on phonics)

is easy if god made everyone straight then the world wouldnt be populated . at the rate people are having kids now imagine china , india, japan etc.. their would be so many kids being born each year you wouldnt go to the hospital to give birth you'd give birth at home.

Im not 100% on this information but i do know child births are controlled in china.In china you cant have too many baby girls.Certain places are so populated because they condemn same sex marriage and practically dont let gay men be gay men they arrange marriages force them to have kids when if they let them be themselves their country would be like the us where you can fit another 100 million people easy. Just look at the places where being gay is a high crime their will be high population.

What im saying is gods way of controlling population is like diseases, why did god create the aids virus? you get me is population control.

Because just like almost everything we get from our parents, its a 50/50 chance that that particular egg was going to come out gay, or with brown eyes. Since it split, there was still a 50/50 chance that both eggs would come out gay. Yours did. His didnt. identical physically or not, it was still a genetic crap shoot.
 
I stopped pushing myself with that questions some time ago...There are some things that are just out of your control or understanding...I just focus on the things I can change or control...you are who you are so relax and enjoy!
