Then along came Beavis and Butt-Head, aka, the bosses kids. Two fat lazy kids. The kiss of death. The were left to run things and knew nothing about what we did. Our customer base dwindled, benefits and hours were cut so, I decided to move on. The guy who hired me acted like I got him pregnant and was leaving him for another woman.
Years ago, I was the bookkeeper for a corporate-run warehouse. They sent some wunderkind out to take over the place and "turn it around". (It was always profitable, just never impressively so.) The first two months the new guy was in charge, the warehouse in fact showed an exceptionally high profit. Reason? He refused to issue any credits, or pay any bills. In other words, for two months, we had money coming in and nothing going out, so hey - check out that great bottom line! Of course, all of our suppliers cut us off, we were stuck on "cash only" for everything, and several of our best accounts left us because we refused to process the things they returned. But boy, those two months sure looked nifty!
I actually went over the boss's head and called the district manager at corporate. I told him, "This guy is running the place into the ground. He's not paying any bills or issuing any credits." His response was that I had no idea how bookkeeping worked, that "floating" was a common practice (it was, but "floating" isn't "not paying any bills ever"), and to just sit tight and watch how things would sort themselves out. I gave notice just about the time we were told the power was getting turned off at the warehouse. The new guy loved the idea that I was leaving - because then he could take over doing the books himself. The first thing he did was buy himself a pair of snowmobiles...on company dime.
Two months later, I got a panicked call from the district manager. He had to temporarily move out to Denver to try to fix the huge mess the warehouse was in. I helped out with the paperwork a few times, but it was past redemption. The place shut down within a year, and to this day, this national corporation has no footprint in Denver.
Don't know what happened to that new guy. My guess is they hired him to work in corporate.
