She is better looking than Britney and definitely better looking than Christina Aguilera. She also can sing better than Shitney. How come she never became as succesful as them?

I don't recall Jessica ever dressing as skanky as britney or christina... I think that might have something to do with it.. Plus, Britney turned into a train wreck while Jessica kept her sanity.

I will bet dollars against donuts that Jessica's creepy dad-manager had something to do with it.

1.) She came after Britney and Christina. After that they were just cranking out blonde manufactured pop stars like Mandy & Jessica to catch up with the boyband craze.

2.) Jessica was never trendy when it came to music and the songs on her albums reflected that with her first album being the exception to that. With Sweet Kisses, the image, the songs, and single selections were all done right. She had more mature ballads than even Christna at that time. After that it was all down hill with mediocre left over tracks and rejected songs from other artists that didn't fit her style and an image that was becoming more cartoonish everyday. 3 flops in a row and a country album that most people forget even exisited and a trail of horrible films is what did her in.

3.) oh and she can't dance for shit.

Hmm, sultan, maybe this should be in "Entertainment". I know they renamed it "Male Celebrity News & Gossip" a little while back after some complaints about female stars being discussed here, heh. Maybe an admin can move it.

^ This, lol. Particularly cringe-inducing was when he would elaborate about whether she had a boob job or not and emphatically talk about her "twins" being real. Knowing he was a former baptist minister (I believe?) too made it all the more creepy.

But that aside, I always thought she had a nice voice even if her music isn't really my thing. (I did like the track that sampled some John Cougar Mellancamp.) One of my friends had this theory that if she did something like a jazz album or standards, it'd actually be really great, instead of the trash she's often singing.

Mind you, the less said about Ashlee Simpson the better.

EDIT:
After that they were just cranking out blonde manufactured pop stars like Mandy & Jessica to catch up with the boyband craze.

It's funny you mention Mandy Moore because I was just thinking of her as I was writing my post and before I refreshed to see yours. Mandy (who actually always seemed like a sweet person), Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson to me all kind of fit into the same category with varying degrees of success, musical risk, personal setbacks/triumphs, etc. I thought Britney was the worst singer of the four but for quite a while (before her setbacks) was seemingly unstoppable.

^Exactly, perfectly summed up.

She was always that other blonde pop girl that wasn't Britney & wasn't Christina. Personally I thought she was more vocally talented than Britney, but it didn't sync up with the image of sexy young pop chick.

Plus she got more popularity for a reality show & being an airhead than being talented at anything. ("Is this chicken or fish?")

she doesn't look half as good as Britney or Christina. She was very annoying. The music that they had her singing was very bad. I could go on and on.. I prefer her sister atleast she has a likable personality.

Male Celebrity News & Gossip Discuss your favorite male celebrities. Who's hot, who's not, who gets you hot and bothered... you get the idea.

I agree with most of what was said in this thread but her not looking half as good as Britney and Christina (who usually looks like a vegas escort who took a paint roller to the face) is ridiculous. She looks better than both of them IMO.

Well, the woman does have an enormous nose and a massive jaw.

If you took off all that make-up and those great long rags of hair she end up looking like the Duke of Wellington and Count Otto Von Bismarck. Just saying.

It's funny that Jessica Simpson and Kelly Osbourne share the same fatal flaw; they thought a reality TV show would get people to care about their music.

Now I know that's not fair to Jessica because she obviously did music first, then married Lashey, then went country, but still...

The only person that exists marginally is Xtina, and while she's the most vocally talented, even HER last album bombed.

Exactly! She jumped on the bandwagon too late. Plus, everytime she had the opportunity to do something big, she fucked it up.

First album was pretty good and did fairly well. They promoted her the right way: the more mature 'blonde girl singer'. But then her horrible second album happened. Horrible 'urban' music that she could never have pulled off.

Then, her reality show hit. She was huge! 'With You' was doing amazing. She had the perfect image: ditzy but loveable blonde, girl with huge knockers. Then, she decided to do that horrible remake movie and then release those two pretty bad cover songs.

It was all downhill after that!

IDK but I think Britney is still perceived as the one being on top right? I'm not huge into her but she's still a mainstay on the radio & wasn't her last tour pretty successful?

I still see Spears cranking out hits, meanwhile Xtina pretty has to do that show to stay relevant.

Does this topic even need to exist? Isn't it glowingly obvious?

Her songs were awful or bland at best.

Her image was all over the place (blonde popstar, ditzy housewife, holy Christian, big boobed sex bomb, wannabe actress, country sweetheart - pick one or two and stick to it).

Although she had a great voice at one point, she couldn't control it. She often shouted during performances and F'd up her vocals, which is why she often whispers when she sings now.

She was never "cool." No one wanted to dress like her or emulate her style. That's a huge deal in the entertainment industry.

She never had the it factor. Britney commands a stage like she was sent from God to do so (or at least she used to). All eyes have ALWAYS been on Britney. She exudes appeal. Jessica always came across as a pretty girl who would be impressive to watch sing at church. I never HAD to see her in concert or have posters of her all over my walls. She was just boring and dull and had NO star quality whatsoever.

Honestly, I think Ashlee Simpson was the Simpson who got the bad rap. I saw her live in concert and that girl sings better than anyone would ever expect based on her TV performances. For some reason, her vocals sound awful on TV, but they were damn good in person (and yes, she was singing 100% live). Her songs were catchy and very radio friendly. People just wanted to hate her for whatever reason. If her voice was that bad, she wouldn't have gotten so many rave reviews for her broadway performances in Chicago.

There's a window of opportunity celebrities have in their attempts to connect to the public. Once the general public has made up its mind, its hard to get them to change it. Both of the Simpsons failed to make any kind of lasting connection or impression. People will look back on them and remember them as jokes when they look back on the 00s. Britney will be remembered as THE popstar and Christina will be remembered as THE voice.

I found this on Rolling Stone discussing her legacy thereby answering this thread's question..

Britney Spears became an international pop culture icon immediately after launching her recording career. Rolling Stone magazine wrote: "One of the most controversial and successful female vocalists of the 21st century," she "spearheaded the rise of post-millennial teen pop ... Spears early on cultivated a mixture of innocence and experience that broke the bank". She is listed by the Guinness World Records as having the "Best-selling album by a teenage solo artist" for her debut album ...Baby One More Time which sold over thirteen million copies in the United States. Melissa Ruggieri of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported, "She's also marked for being the best-selling teenage artist. Before she turned 20 in 2001, Spears sold more than 37 million albums worldwide". As of 2011, she has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She was also ranked as the fourth VH1's "50 Greatest Women of the Video Era" show list, ahead of most of her contemporaries and only behind veterans like Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Whitney Houston. Spears is also recognized as the best-selling female artist of the first decade of the 21st century, as well as the fifth overall. In December 2009, Billboard magazine ranked Spears the 8th Artist of the 2000s decade in the United States.

^Simply put... [/B]Britney had better marketing, singles, and personality than Jessica[/B] thereby conencting with a bigger overall audience for over 13 yrs. Numbers don't lie.

Wait.. :confused:I thought XXXTina, BritBrit, Jessica, Mandy and the rest of the carbon copies all had one gimmick.... blonde with boobies. Well I think Christina's gimmick was "girl next door" and then when the second album hit she had an image overhaul and then it became "filthy cum slut".

But maybe that's why Jessica didn't reach a higher level like Brit and Christina. She didn't slut it up enough. She definitely had a marketable look though. She is beautiful. As for Ashley Simpson.. nobody cared about her until she fucked up her SNL performance. She is a horrible singer, and she was pretty after the nose job but she had the most boring, bland personality that appealed to nobody except 13-16 yr old girls.

Off topic but did anyone else find it funny how when Britney kissed Madonna at that dumb performance, the media exploded and had a field day like it was the second coming of Christ, but nobody even mentioned or cared that Madonna also kissed Christina?

1. she came after shiny Britney and the talented Xtina

2. Jessica is neither shiny nor talented

3. she doesnt really have "star" quality

4. her trick jaw when she sings is a turn off and she can't really sing.

5. overly ambitious stage DAD (the Dina Lohan of music)
