Why do Americans never accept Westlife?

The basic difference in music taste seems to be that America (like Latin America and apparently Australia) like a little bit of danger and unpredictability in their music, even though with Americans we like a certain degree of predictability (this is a reason that rap is so popular: It mixes the edge with predictability). This is opposed to, say, Europe, which prefers things to be as predictable as possible, and Asia in general, which likes cute but non-threatening. I also find it interesting that, outside of specific artists, non-American bands die horribly in America, but American artists appear to do just fine in other countries.

[The obvious exception are the Metal fans, but discounts punk fans. Not trying to be a jerk, but punk tends to be a bit predictable after a bit...]

That said, Westlife is a cute group, and I like them (I love "when you're looking like that), but I wish they would do fewer covers. That's what kills them; if they did more original work, they would do well, I think...

Well I"ve never heard of Westlife until I read this post.
Hell man, I still listen to The Beatles....

I will check them out..... could be they have some catchy tunes that I would appreciate.

Even some American artists can't sell well in USA. I guess an artist needs to stand out. Westlife's songs are enjoyable. But not what America wants to listen to, generally. Billboard Hot 100 is full of hip-hop and R n B. Westlife just does not fit in.

Remember that Kylie and Robbie Williams are not making much impact there too.

i forgot that being able to dance was the bar that artists/groups need to aspire to..yeah what was i thinking.

westlife is lame as hell. they cant dance for shit and they are just boring.

But it's so cute when they try to "dance". There's a video somewhere on youtube of them singing Don't Cha. Cracks me up everytime and makes my day 100% better.

i saw them perform a song with some dance moves on it. this was when they were still a 5 piece. they looked sooooo stupid and stiff. they even had those headset mics which they didnt need.....they just look so odd

big fan of some of those artists myself. i find myself buying more and more import albums than cds here in the States..thats craziness. I love Rachel Stevens last cd, Sugababes, All Saints and Girls Aloud to name a few groups/artists along with Blue and Westlife as well.

I like Rachel Stevens as well. I've never been that big of a fan of Sugababes as a whole, but I have enjoyed some of their songs.

I also like everything that the group BLUE did. I guess that's why I'm a fan of Simon Webbe's solo stuff now too. I didn't care for Lee Ryan's solo CD as much as I thought I would. Duncan's solo stuff was pretty good, but I have enjoyed Simon's the most of all the band members.

It's weird because before i thought Rachel's last cd was okay. But since i've been home i have listened to it more than a few times and there isnt a song on the cd that i dont like. Please i put the whole cd on my ipod. I like the guys from Blue and what they've done on the solo front. I like about 4 or 5 songs off of Lee's cd. I mostly like him because he has a big, powerful voice and fine as hell of course. Like Duncan's and i recently bought Sanctuary by Simon which i enjoy as well.
