Why is Scarlet Johansson so praised...

I liked her in movies like Lost in Translation and Girl With the Pearl Earring where her roles relied on her facial expressions (and lips!), but once she starts talking a lot, I cringe. She doesn't convince me with her acting. She comes off as amateur at best. She's not the worst actress, but her acting ability doesn't deserve the praise. To me, Lindsay Lohan's acting is hugely superior to Scarlet's, yet because of Lindsay's crazy antics Scarlet has more credibility. By the way, I hate when Scarlet makes her voice high to show that she's excited...she should just stick to using her smoky lower register. Would anyone agree that Scarlet's looks have primarily gotten her where she is today?

I agree on all fronts, including Lindsay being better than her. Lindsay is at least charming and charismatic, and can access emotion.

I just recently saw The Nanny Diaries, and it pretty much confirmed the girl cannot act her way out of a box, especially when it comes to comedy.

I know she's a movie actor, but I don't think I've ever seen one of her movies.

Her name does crop up in the entertainment press constantly.

I just figured she's either a very good actor or very sexy (or both.)

The first movie I ever saw Scarlet in was Ghost World in which she starred alongside Thora Birch who far outshined her. But of course Scarlet went blonde and dolled herself up ala-Christina Aguilera and her feigned sex appeal helped her win the hearts of millions. Personally I think she's dull on screen and nothing special. Just another actress who will likely come and go. I feel the same way about Lindsay Lohan who contrary to what some of you have said has rarely ever shown true talent beyond the kiddie films she starred in years ago. The more adult films she's been in since then have all flopped and been considered complete disasters, especially the recent I Know Who Killed Me which is already well on its way to DVD release by now.

Whether someone's movies flop or not doesn't reflect their talent. Just poor choice in films.

For instance, Georgia Rule. Not a very good movie, thus it flopped. But even the New York Times praised the performance Lindsay gave in the movie, that shined despite the bad writing.

Yeah, as much as I enjoyed V for Vendetta, it seemed like Natalie Portman was not totally convincing at times, but she's a hell of a better actor than Scarlet. My whole annoyance with Scarlet Johansson is the superior actresses who deserve more praise, but don't get it.

ok sure, she had some good roles and yeah she was great in some movies mostly BEFORE she became a drunken party girl, but I just saw "i Know who killed me" and it was HOOOORRRRRIIIIIBBBBLLLLLEE!! it seriously was VERY terrible, besides the plot, and writing being so fucked up its hard for any actor to try and make work, SHE WASN'T EVEN CLOSE to making it believable! it was truly bad...

as for Scarlet, I do agree sometimes I find her acting kinda not great but not Bash worthy! Lost In Translation is wonderful! and at least she's more consistent than Lindsey, she is very young and yeah will do a lot of growing whereas Lindsey has begun her decent already

She was paired with legendary rock star Don Henley and the two were making small talk; she told him (and us) about her upcoming album and asked if he could offer her some advice. Henley matter-of-factly said, "No" and immediately proceeded into offering the list of nominees.

For once, I felt sooo embarassed for the overrated movie girl.

Now I'm over it and hope her upcoming CD bombs (it will!).

LOL...I didn't see that. Still, her acting ability is praised and her A-list status is represented by bad acting. I never said people praised her singing. I guess when people tell you you're "the shit" then you begin to think that way. Then again, Scarlet always seems so sweet in her interviews. I love her personality because she's funny, but when she's on screen, it truly is like she's a different person, but in the worst way.

She's received a couple of Golden Globe nominations but she's never received an Academy Award nomination and she's been pretty much been in the spotlight since 2001's "Ghostworld" so maybe she's reached her zenith (fingers crossed!).

I love Anne. I know a lot of people hate her, but she's one of my favorite young actresses and she gave my favorite performance in Brokeback Mountain.
