It's some chicken-shit teenagers who may very well have done it as a dare. Or the ex-bf of the guy he went to dinner with. Or... who knows?

Yes, it's reprehensible, but let's keep it in context, 'K? This isn't evidence of mass homophobia or the tide turning back or anything.

When I drum into closeted guys' brains that it's so much easier to come out, that's exactly what I mean: easier. Not easy. It'll never be easy. That's what growing up's all about. Doing things that are self-respectful, but not necessarily easy.

I am not surprised at all. And in fact, the more straight appearing a gay man is, it is probably more difficult because all the straights who are most insecure, do their insecure thing, like they left Matthew Shepard beated and tied to a ranch fence post in Wyoming. Regional differences are also characteristic of California and probably all our states here in the USA.
