Will the old world come round again?

Where we live without oil and antibiotics?

Where disease is common and transportation takes time and papaya is rare in the North? Where we wrap things up in leaves, not plastic?

Or, are we so clever that our extravagant lifestyle is sustainable?

If we run out, we find more.

We work harder (By "we" I mean 12 year old Chinese boys in factories)

We drill deeper

We explorer further.

Demand has become more intense. So has our solutions.

^ You'd be surprized.

Also, the Dutch were considered to have invented the mafia in their Chinese 'factories' (settlement size colonies that came before geopolitical colonization).

thinking , moralistically perhaps . Any interpretation of the human race at the moment must acknowledge as facts two things . That on average our standard of living is quite a bit higher than it's every been , really unparalleled in history , and our relationship to the government-the overlords is better than it's ever been . We are the benificiaries of a few hundred years of protests . Point-blank things on average right now for us are freakishly better than they have ever been in history . My note to myself yesterday , " Documentary BBC on the Normans and the first Crusade , the fake funeral . What unspeakable monsters we're descended from . Cortes on Arawak . Trail of Tears , Frank L. Baum's comment . The kidnapping of Atahualpa . The various peace treaties we have signed and later completely ignored . Bloodthirsty dishonourable monsters . We are all so much kinder decent and gentlemanly than we have been even recently . Rwanda . Cambodia . Let's kill some eight-year old girls . " " You could argue that the recent history of the human race is the trend towards decency and kindness despite our natural tendency to kill people in large numbers and make lampshades out of them . We have progressed from the Roman Forum disembowelling people for entertainment purposes to No horses were harmed in the making of this film . Torturing animals even . " We are all so much more civilized and decent than even recently .

^ you wish.

Once we actually use more atomic bombs to annihilate the tribes that are pissing us off, we will return to a medieval culture where only the brutish live like kings in squalid fortresses and the rest of the population lives like animals.

Get ready for it.

Most of the global population will probably be killed off by a virus sooner or later.

But it will be difficult to return to any sort of 'primitive' life-style once we have finished wiping out all the animals and plants. Pretty hard to lead a 'hunter/gatherer' lifestyle when there is nothing left to hunt or gather.

Onviously, True Christian Believers™ have little to worry about; they will have been safely raptured into the arms of Jesus by then. (o)

I know many who think so much of humanity that they believe we will outwit our looming crises. Oil running out? We'll make cars run on something else! Antibiotics not working? We'll create new pharmaceuticals! Infrastructure failing? We'll rebuild with unknown materials!

I don't think so. I'm prepared to return to windmills and horses-and-buggies. I like lots of hot showers, and cheese from Switzerland. But I see a cold, dirty future filled with turnips.

But we are not running out of oil, nanotechnology will replace most forms of medicine including antibiotics and if you want to look at what every city of the future will be built with just look at Dubai.

We are breeding too quickly and running out of space. Which is why this new mirror (Which I'm finna make a thread about) that has been put in a huge planetary telescope will scope out planets like never thought possible. So we can get off this God forsaken planet (See what I did there?) and start colonizing.

If the world was going to fall apart and regress why would it happen now?

Why not when the spanish flu hit? I still cannot believe nor want to the amount of people that died. All the poets that died. Leaders. Authors. Physicists. Thinkers. Innovators.

Why not during World war I or II?

Why not The Great Depression?

Literally nothing is happening right now. We have countries rebelling against their leaders (Wow how will I feed myself) religious zealots wanting to kill for their God (That's totally new) and Hurricane Sandy.

I really don't want to hear about Nukes, tbqh. I will lol.

We have put our great resources into temporary pleasures, not long-term planning. The 'city of the future' and the nanotech you imagine won't happen because we have squandered our opportunity to realize them on inferior projects.

The future is full of poverty because today we are rich.

Haven't we been doing that for 200 thousand years since we evolved into homo-sapiens?

The tech that I imagine has to do with using flashes of light to detect cancer (We can already do that today with 90-95% accuracy) and stem cell research letting us grow body parts (Ears so far)

Listen, don't mind me. My only point is what I told those "May 21st end of the world" freaks who thought birds dying in the thousands or earthquakes meant Jesus was coming: Shit has always gone down. 100+ million deaths thanks to a disease in less than a year. Earthquakes that dwarf anything we have seen for the past 100 years. Genocides. The end of entire kingdoms and civilizations.

The world is still spinning and we are still here. Now if we get a little rain it's a superstorm. Or if hail falls out of the sky larger than a dime Jesus is approaching. I guess I am just tired of the mess.

I love the world I live in today but sometimes I wish these people could of lived through the horrors of the past so they can appreciate the world we have today. Not to say there aren't people enslaved or fighting off diseases today. However, it is nothing compared to what was.
