So when I replace my laptop screen within the next week, I've been looking for a way to make my 64 bit system run a little smoother. As most know, Vista can be clunky at times, and I've noticed problems with my system that I haven't seen on others. I was wodnering if anyone here has ever used Windows Vista Black Edition 2009? If so, could you tell me if it is worth switching over? Thanks!

From what I know, this "Black Edition" is a cracked and tweaked copy of Vista. It's up to you if you want to use an illegal version of it.

as noted above vista black isn't a legitimate version of widnows. i wouldn't install it because you don't know what someone has done to it.

as far as i know there are only 4 versions of vista

Home Basic
Home Premium
Business
Ultimate (which comes in a black case)

Yes I am aware of the Cracked Version of Vista. However My friend has a copy and was talking to me about it. Thought I would gather information before I did anything "drastic." I am downloading Windows 7 Beta as soon as my screen gets fixed though... Whenever that will be -.-

well i would still be cautious. if someone has changed things enough that it says it's "windows vista black" or something similar then you don't know what else they've done to it. it maybe sending personal info out there. there could be keyloggers on it, ya just never know. i guess that risk is there with any pirated software, but at least in this case you sorta know upfront it's been hacked a fair bit.

good luck though! ;)

I have been pushing vista to the limit so far. But it is so buggy sometimes. I have to system restore a lot with it but I have never had a computer before that could handle certain things, so I have been pushing this laptop pretty far...

I've never operated Linux or anything close to linux before... I might have to check it out.

Last time I did a system reinstall, I set up everything the way I like it, downloaded Driveimage XML and made a backup on my external drive. It's about the best way I've found to avoid the hassle of starting over at square one with Windows systems every time I fuck something up and don't know what I did wrong.

I would not use an unofficial version simply because you don't know what's in it and what it's doing unless you really know your stuff. And somebody probably did put a nasty surprise in there somewhere. Vista (as it is) can be a bit clunky but you can usually get it to do what you need it to do with a few Google searches. I've been relatively happy with it and I probably won't buy another OS until I buy a new computer.

Maybe try Linux if you want something different.
