I have sorry ass Vista and trying to format to XP. I had added a new drive to format to, and it still didn't pickup the new drive on the HDD.

This is the error message I get when trying to format to Windows XP

Setup did not find any hard drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on, and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue

Can someone please help me????

Does anyone think I need to take it in to the service center?

Is Vista still installed on the first partition? Is it still useable?

How did you create this new partition?

If you did this through Vista’s Computer Management – Disc Management, you should have assigned a drive letter to the new space, but left the new space as unallocated, (or unformatted) then when you go to install XP you can let XP (quick) format this space.

If you are trying to set up dual booting, please make sure you understand all the steps first.

I did use Disk Management, and I assigned it to the D drive, because I reading something online saying it was the easiest way to not lose you Disc drive, and I reassigned the Disc drive to E:. So I shouldn't have put the new formatted space under NTFS??? Just leave blank when making a new partition?

The hard drive isn't formatted or partitioned properly. XP can't recognise it. Also because of Vista being on the original HDD XP may not 'understand' that HDD plus your restore disks probably don't actually contain an OS as most manufactures use a hidden partition to store the reinstall files.

Make and model of laptop please. Make and model of the new HDD you want to use also.

I have a Toshiba A205-S5812, I hate this computer so bad. lol It always freezes! It has an Hitachi HDD.

Great! That looks like it should work well if you follow his instructions precisely. :)

If you are still able to work with your Vista installation, go back into disc manager and start fresh by deleting the partition you made before.

Great, i'll try it again! :)

I have tried the blink partition and NTFS and it still doesn't work. It keeps bring me back to where I started. I diagnosed my computer with the disk check, and it said nothing is wrong with the computer.

I HATE THIS FUCKING COMPUTER & VISTA SO MUCH!

I still don't know why you're not wiping the drive with setup.

I have!!, and when I do it doesn't do anything. The same message comes on. See you can't just put XP in and format it that way cause it definitely won't work. I can clean the HDD with the restore disk it gives you a option, but it brings the same message up. I don't have a floppy drive in my laptop to Fdisk it.

I already told you that the restore disk usually accesses a hidden partition that contains a lot of the necessary files to do a reinstall so if you destroy all the partitions you'll lose any chance of reinstalling Vista.

Anyhow, I thought you said that you had a second hard drive? All the talk here so far has been about the original drive so far.

Anyhow part two, if your hard drive has been configured in such a way as to prevent XP from 'understanding' it correctly there are ways around that. However, if you completely destroy the partitions you may lose any ability to reinstall the original OS.

Anyhow part three (and this is the big one), your laptop has a Serial ATA-150 drive controller and Windows XP can't recognise it from its boot up CD so there is no way to install XP from a CD unless you can get drivers for it.

When you first boot off the XP CD you are given the option to press F6 to install other drivers. You need to find those drivers for your laptop and 'give them' to XP at that point - IT CAN'T SEE YOUR DRIVE - PERIOD.

Sorry for shouting at you but I get kinda frustrated when I have to take over like this.

Your laptop is built for Vista NOT XP but there are ways of installing XP - however this is not a simple process for you (don't mean to be offensive but it's true) - you need to read these:

Intel Drivers:

That other guide you referred to is useless BTW - this is why I asked you for your make and model ages ago.

;)

LOL Thanks, Noelie

No, I don't have another HDD. I was talking about the Partition drive I made.

Ok, so it's possible to get Vista out of the way of the blocking of XP. It's just going to take time. correct???

I'll look for the software on the links you gave me.

BTW: Do you know the name of the driver i'm looking for????

Noelie, I love you so much right now! I have another question.

What other companies have these Serial ATA HDD?

I'm going to definitely try to stay away from them. I should of got my dumb ass a Apple in the first place!

BTW: Does Vista supposed to freeze???

I have been having that problem lately when writing essays or doing school work for college.

Noelie, I love you so much right now! I have another question.

I'm seeing that all the companies deal with the SATA HDD. That really sucks how they made it difficult to go back to XP. Microsoft is really a bitch when it comes to updates, they don't want anyone going back.

GREEDY MOTHERF***ERS!!!!

Serial ATA is an incredible leap from IDE (the old format) - that's a good thing for all of us - not something to blame MS for.

You may not need a floppy drive - you may be able to use a USB stick or drive for that. Or you could make an ISO image of the XP CD and add the drivers to the ISO and then recreate the CD and boot off it.

You've still got options - thanks to the flexibility of MS OSes ;)

Ok, i'll recreate the CD because I don't know how to use the USB option. I have never seen it pick-up during a Windows Setup

You liar. You live for these moments. It’s almost amusing how predictable you are, and yet, it’s always such a disappointment to me when your prevailing attitude surfaces.

Your cape is in the mail.

Lookin4, I hope you get it all sorted out. Listen to noelie, he knows his shit -- if you can tolerate his computerside manner.

lol Thanks Kahaih, I wanted to also thank you for your help! I'll get this squared away soon! :)

Thanks Noelie! I'll try it, and see if it works. I probably won't have updates on my computer till next week. I have to write a term paper, and study for my exams this week!

BTW: Nice Samsung laptop, I've never seen one till now. They have very nice products! :)

BAD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE MOTHERFUCKING COMPUTER FUCKING BLUE SCREENED WHILE INSTALLING XP. EVERYTHING WAS GOING GOOD! NEXT TIME WHEN I RE-DID IT, THE COMPUTER WENT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM!

IT KEEPS BLUE SCREENING!

What version of the drivers did you use?

Like, did you get the option to use text or PnP when integrating them into nLite?

Did Windows even try to install? At what point did it BSOD? What was the error?

Have you given up?

:D

I did everything you said, except I used it under the disk drive. I used the external drive, and it picked up the software and it was going good the Raid for XP popped up on the screen. The problem now is that when the option to install XP pulls up there is no HDD there to upload XP to. It says unknown, and no options (it doesn't even pick up Vista). I took it to the shop the motherfuckers there said nothing is wrong with the HDD, and it should automatically be able to format back to XP.

I was reading on Toshiba that the Vista Ultimate is the only OS that you can bring XP back without a problem. I was WTF why would you do that for the most fucking expensive OS out there. Also i'm really pissed @ Toshiba because they recommend the Ultimate version, but don't install that version on the computer. CHEAP FUCKERS! I have Vista Home Premium.

BTW: HELL NO, I'm not giving up! lol :) I gotta fight these dumb asses head on! lol

The original error came up which is this: Setup did not find any hard drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on, and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue
