Wolverine and the X-Men has started in Canada

How could anyone like the original X-Men cartoon ...especially over Evolution???

The art was shitty,(Sentinels that suddenly had the power to change their size and shape? don't even get me started on how craptastic the characters actually looked.)
the characters lacked any depth,(The great thing about the X-Men is the actual characters not their flashy powers, this show made them all soulless),
the writing was poor(taking existing stories and chopping them up to fit into 25 minute episodes ruins the story and lacks originality)...

Evolution had excellent characterizations.. all the characters retained their core personalities but was revamped to make them actual students like it was in the beginning. The artwork was top notch...

To each it's own. To me, Evolution was crap...sometimes cringe worthy.

I second that motion. I watched it for the first month, and I was done, with the exception of an occasional episode. The 90s cartoon was the best interpretation of X-Men, compared to the comic book, out of any of the media that we have, excluding videogames.

Indeed. The 90's take on the X-Men was, by far, the best one. And comparing the designs is...well...I was gonna say ridiculous but let's say "unfair" instead. I say this because one was made in the early 90's while the other was made in the early 2000's so...obviously the technology had developed quite a LOT in between so it's unfair to compare. Technically speaking, the designs might have been a lil' better on Evolution, due to what I mentioned before. I still much prefer the designs in the original cartoon. PLUS the storylines in the original cartoons are FAR beyond better than the ones on Evolution...they had a lot to say in social and political terms, while Evolution lost, for the most part, that side of the X-Men.

This new series is much closer to that social and political commentary, typical and central in the X-Men.

< not a cartoon, but you must love him (ww)(ww)

OOPs...wrong topic...leaves the thread....

Taking pre-existing storylines... dumbing them down.. and sapping the life out of the characters is a HORRIBLE interpretation. That's exactly what the 90's cartoon did. The writing was horrible on this show.

Evolution had the socio-political storylines they were just much more localized rather than being so broad.

As a reader of the X-Men for over 20 plus years I have to say that the 90's cartoon almost turned me off of the other media intrepretaions of my beloved team of mutants... it wasn't until Evolution where they took the basic premise of the series and fully captured it by making them teenagers dealing with all the things teenagers normally deal with and adding their budding mutant abilities to it like it was back in the 60's when the X-Men was first introduced to the world. Evolution contained all the angst that goes along within the X-Men and wrapped it up into the drama that associates with high school. As the world became more aware of mutants thats when things began to travel outside the confines of the school and it became way more believeable than in the first series...

I felt more about and for the characters in Evolution from Nightcrawler to Spyke(who was an awful addition) than I did for Jubilee or Morph(who was also an awful addition)

And Rogue in the 90's cartoon was so incredibly one dimensional and stereotypical whereas making her a goth (high schools self professed outcasts) made her a tangible character with so many subtleties and nuances that you actually were rooting for her to get with Cyclops even though you knew it wouldn't ever happen.

How much can you expect for them to fit into 22 minutes of programming? Of course, the storylines are going to be drastically reduced compared to the comicbooks. In any event, I stand by what I said when I said the 90s cartoon is the best interpretation of X-Men. The problem with Evolution is that it came up with completely different and separate concepts (i.e. teenagers) concerning X-Men.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

It's no fair. It's already started there in September. It's come out on DVD in the UK already too. But we have to wait until JAnuary.

OMG!!!!! When is this going to air in the US, and what station (is it syndicated?).... How did I miss this? Details...... PLEASE!!!!!!!!:gogirl:

Ok ... I had to necro this because I just sat down and watched all the episodes of this show and let me tell you ...

I fucking loved it... I can't wait for season 2....

This one now tops the list as my favourite interpretation of the X-Men.

I loved how they added so many different characters... it was fun watching the interaction between them ...especially Wolverine and Emma... The ending was a total shocker for me...

The whole aspect of Xavier being stuck in the future... what a great concept ...even though I have no idea how he would be able to send his thoughts back I don't care... it was an awesome plot device even if a bit unbelievable.

The Hellfire Club, Mojo, Spiral, Blink, Vanisher, every addition was awesome to see...

Plus I loved how this could ALMOST be a continuation of Evolution...

The ending in present day wasnt a big shocker because they did something similar in the comics with Emma cracking into pieces. I dont wanna spoil for you what happens with that in the comics. But it might not come back since the last part of the ending seemed a lot like the series finale of evolution.

According to what I've read there will at least be 2 more seasons... Season 2 will be dealing with the Age of Apocalypse....

from Wikipedia:
Season Two

As of now, season two is in pre-production. The same team that produced the first season will be returning. There will be 26 more episodes, and it will focus on the Age of Apocalypse.[1]

Season Three

On May 8, 2009, the series was renewed for another 26 episodes as a third season

And I've been reading the comics for many many years ... I remember what happened when Emma shattered ... but that had nothing to do with the Phoenix...

Thanks for the info about the show returning. I was worried.

I know Emma's shattering in the comics had to do with the Cuckoos. And once they were introduced I kinda knew what was coming. ANd I kinda have an idea of what will happen next.
