On a side note, is it actually true that only 1% of Americans are gay? Here in the UK I know it's way higher, but then we don't have as much, let's say, influence from our community as some Americans do.

I've always wondered how the statisticians arrived at the 1% figure - is it a scientific calculation? If so, based on what, or is it based on the census? If it's census-based, how much is accounted for people in denial, people unaware and people simply not willing to state sexuality?

Come to think of it... I don't ever recall the Aussie census asking about sexuality...
