are you sure about the 25% bisexual? it doesnt surprise me really i tihnk most people probably supress it within themselves but i had just never really heard that figure. 35% is a nice number though if correct :)

Yeah, that 25% bisexual probably isn't accurate.

I've never met another bi guy....but I do have some gay friends. So if I were to guess there are less bisexual guys out there, either that or their not very open about it, which would also make sense.

"When you're bisexual then you are one of 25%."

I doubt that this figure is correct more like 60 to 70%. Weather they act on it or not is another matter.

how do people find that out?
did some researchers conduct a world survey? or is there scientific proof that 10% of population is gay?

It's based in official information, census and other government's and health institution's data. And that is why it must be put in doubt. When answering stuff that you know will be for government purposes, i think, a lot of gay people would lie about their sexuality.

As far as i know there is not an official and accepted investigation about this. A new number 20% (just gay men, not bisexual) has repoted by condom brands, however condom brands just make a quick poll (this was in 2001 i think), so this is not official, but when it comes to sexuality, who would you think is closer to the know the true? government or a condom brand?

What scientific investigation have found and proved is that percentage of gay people is way larger in metropolitan areas than in rural ones, in other words the result shows a tendency: the more modern city/place, more gay people. (Let me see if i can find where did i get this from). I think percentage must be the same, but in little towns or rural areas 'tolereance' is less that in big cities, so people in not so modern places must be afraid of declare themselves as gay.

I see the 10% quoted a lot by gays themselves.

However, almost all of the medical literature I have read says that the number is around 5%. Never seen any data on bisexuals. As pointed out, it is not a very accurate study to pursue b/c you have to rely on people to be honest.

I don't even believe the 10% figure is correct since I've never seen an actual study on it and it wouldn't really be possible to do one.

There's more than 30 guys on my residence floor and I'm 99% sure I'm the only gay one.

i believe that statistics are always suspect, and they can be used to demonstrate anything and everything. but, whatever the percentages, you and we are SPECIAL.

Almost no experts accept the 10% number for those who identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual. Most surveys or studies put the number down in the middle to low single digits (i.e., 2-5%) overall in the US for people who identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual. During the 2004 election, one of the major polling organizations asked sexual orientation in the exit polls and came up with something like 4% of voters identifying as such. I wish I could find the source for it, since it's probably one of the more accurate figures we have.

Others have estimated similar numbers from 2000 census information. Sexual orientation was not a question on the census, but that was the first year they started counting same-sex couples living together. Through some statistical manipulation, one researcher was able to estimate the total number of gay people from the number of couples. San Francisco ended up with about 15% while Seattle, Minneapolis and Atlanta with about 13% followed by some other cities. If SF is only 15% gay, it's hard to believe the country as a whole is anywhere near 10%.

Ten percent might have had sexual relations with somebody of the same sex at some point in their lives, but personally I find the number of people who identify as GLBT in some way more important. The closet cases or experimenters aren't people I'm going to date and generally they're not people who are going to stand up politically for our equality.
