Anyone see the latest Jeep Liberty ad in the US? So gay (and I mean that in a good way)!

Gay lookin' dark skinned dude with facial hair, a white coffee cup, and a beaded bracelet (and a California? Wedding ring, LOL). No forests, no mountains, no mud. Very urban looking guy with a pale silver background.

Text reads, in part: "I carry precious cargo--he's big, hairy, barks at the sun and always rides shotgun". A little gay bear innuendo anyone? :)

Something like this, perhaps? :)

It was a tad more subtle. ;)

Let me see if I can get it off my iPhone.

Here ya go!

I was surprised it wasn't in Details magazine. The ad looks like it could've been designed by Apple or Armani. :)

Only women and straight men drive Liberty's.

You want a Jeep, buy a real Jeep ;)

My goodness gracious! *|* :D

Yeah, that does have a homoerotic subtext to it. Kinda plays off the association between gay guys and Jeep Wranglers.

One wonders if the hairy precious cargo is an optional accessory that can be ordered from Jeep! :D

Yeah, my bf has a Wrangler. Very fun!

Is yours red? That's a beautiful color!

I'll have to get my bf to order a new one and find out. :gogirl:

Oh, wait--where does that leave me?

"is yours red" ... *giggle* *snort*

Yeah, here's where the art of negotiation and compromise in a relationship comes into play. I think an agreement to share the optional equipment would need to be a requirement before ordering it! ;)

Well I think it is a very big stretch he is obviously talking about a dog.

I agree with Elwood. I don't get the man and his dog connection to gay bears. Since when to "bears" bark at the sun? Good imagination though, if not a bit out in left field.

Well, sure they are. I mean, it's Time magazine, after all. They have to keep it on the up-and-up.

But they sure make you do a double take. It's a pretty obvious double entendre. I mean, they could've said she.

But that wouldn't grab you the same way, would it? ;)

So you think it's all accidental? A coincidence?

I have to respectfully disagree, if I would have seen this add on its own without this thread, that thought would have never crossed my mind. And I can have a pretty perverted mind sometimes....

Isn't it a stereotype of a man, his dog and a jeep they are hitting anyway? Everyone always tells me I need a big dog riding with me.

Do I think what exactly is an accident/coicidence? Not all Jeep drivers think like gay men do.

Let's start with the basics:

1. Do you guys think the model looks gay in that ad?

2. How long do you think it takes to come up with an ad like this?

3. How carefully do you think the client (Jeep) wants to present itself?

4. How long did it take to come up with the model's photo? What image was Jeep trying to project? How many meetings (at Jeep and at the ad agency) did they have to perfect this idea? How carefully did they convey this idea to the photographer they hired? How many photos did they sift through to come up with the one photo that summarized what they were going after?

5. How long did it take to come up with the verbiage in the ad? What image was Jeep trying to project? How many meetings (at Jeep and at the ad agency) did they have to perfect this text? How many arguments did they have about the exact wording they used in this ad?

6. How much do you think the ad agency or their client (Jeep) left to chance?

I think it's obvious the target market is single men, perhaps even divorced, who are looking to break away from their boring 9 to 5 lives. Whether they are gay or not does not seem to matter with this ad.

What does gay look like? He does look handsome though. And generally every company uses good looking models in their ads (hence the word model.) Generally companies don't hire ugly people to sell big ticket items.
