“That is So Gay” Is Not Hate Speech?

Most people who use the phrase, "That's so gay," aren't using it as hate speech, so it isn't hate speech. Calling me faggot because I am holding hands with my boyfriend - that is hate speech.

My thoughts as well. I don't think it's hate speech, but using that phrase can make many gay guys

uncomfortable like soilwork pointed out in his post and therefor shouldn't be used.

Calling someone a faggot is hate speech, because that word is negative in any situation.

A lot of black people also hate this fact, and hate black people using that word.

But the gangster image in the US is fueling this behaviour with black youths. It also happens in the UK too.

I cringe everytime I hear a black person use the word. Haven't we learned anything?

But the phrase in question shouldn't be banned. Simply for the fact that the world "Gay" meant something else before it was used to describe homosexuals.
