I have been wanting to get two tattoos for a while now, but have not done so. One of the tattoos I want will read “Within death lies immortality”. My question is do you believe it to be true?

Re: “Within death lies immorality”

Did you mean to say "immortality?"

I'm curious to know how you interpret it...

Yes I did mean immortality. So much for spell check.

Within the sense I want the tattoo I just mean even after we die we live on in pictures, movies, forum posts etc.

Re: “Within death lies immorality”

Glad you sorted out the spelling, and I hope the tatooist uses a spell checker to!

As for the saying its a bit sort of quasi interlectual for my taste, but I not having it done, so up to you!

The problem was I misspelled it but still made a word. I hate that.

Re: “Within death lies immorality”

Just curious. :) I like how it sounds, but it is macabre.

But that's my thing....if it makes you happy, get it. :)

It is a bit macabre.

I have every intention of getting it eventually. First though I want one in Chinese over my heart that says, “Love above honor, honor above all else”. That is my personal motto and is kind of important to me.

Sounds cool, am i right in interpreting it as love is honour?

anywho, as to the immortality one, yea it sounds cool, but i, being devils advocate would think that from your explanation, it should infact be "within life lies immortality", as its the expression we make when alive that determines if/how we are remembered, alternatively, and i think perhaps much more poetically than the life line, "within love lies immortality".

But yea, just stuff to think about, if you want it go for it!

Oh, and with the chinese one, make sure you get a friend you trust to do the translation, unless of course you know chinese yourself.

You'd better find good money to pay for a good artist. Anything that long just screams not enough space.

Why not get something innovative instead?

I interpret it as for love I would do anything, including what I don’t believe to be honorable. Though when it doesn’t come to love, I always try to do the right and honorable thing.

The down side to my interpretation is the “right thing” changes constantly so what may be right for now, may not be for tomorrow.

As for the immortality one I like "within love lies immortality" I had not really thought of it. My only problem with it is others remember those they don’t love or like. As for "within life lies immortality", my thinking is people are usually remembered differently than how they were when alive. I have never been to a funeral where someone got up and said, “He was such an asshole. I’m glad he is dead.” I remember when my uncle was murdered. He was gay and his sister (my great aunt) always called him a faggot, but at the funeral she only said the nicest things about him.

With "within death lies immortality", I read it as you will be remembered, but maybe not in the way you should be. To me the saying is more than about just immortality and death. It is also about remembrance and legacy.

If you will, tell me what you think about my thoughts. I liked your thoughts while being devils advocate.

I know a few tattoo artists, including a few family members. Everyone says it can be done, I just need to commit to a design. And I would only use someone I know their work. I don’t want a shitty tat.

As for "Why not get something innovative instead?". Both sayings mean a lot to me personally.
