I'll probably eventually get castrated for making this topic since everyone has to be so anti-mainstream music or they are not cool enough, but here you go:

Which of these songs do you like?

For me,

#98 - Try Again
#95 - Let Me Blow Ya Mind
#94 - Girlfriend
#93 - Kiss Kiss
#83 - Complicated
#80 - Right Round
#77 - Love Song
#76 - Smack That
#73 - Love Story
#69 - Hot n Cold
#66 - I Kissed A Girl
#65 - All For You
#64 - Disturbia
#61 - I'm Yours
#53 - The Way I Are
#51 - If I Ain't Got You
#47 - Since U Been Gone
#44 - Promiscuous
#41 - Hollaback Girl
#35 - Just Dance
#33 - Smooth
#30 - I'm Real
#29 - Fallin'
#28 - Lose Yourself
#22 - The Way You Move
#17 - Bleeding Love
#13 - Big Girls Don't Cry
#1 - We Belong Together

A couple of thoughts and then the list:

I was surprised that there wasn't more Rihanna on this list and that Bad Romance wasn't on this list. I didn't realize how much I liked all of Alicia Keys major hits.

My List

1- We Belong Together
5 - I Gotta Feeling
6 - No One
20 - Hey Ya!
22- The Way You Move
27 - Breathe
29 - Fallin'
35 - Just Dance
40 - Crazy In Love
41 - Hollaback Girl
42 - Poker Face
44 - Promiscuous
47 - Since U Been Gone
48 - Viva La Vida
51 - If I Ain't Got You
54 - I Knew I Loved You
57 - Umbrella
60- Sexyback
61 - I'm Yours
64 - Disturbia
65 - All For You
77- Love Song
79 - Bubbly
86 - You're Beautiful
95 - Let Me Blow Ya Mind
96 - Work It
97 - Hey There Delilah
98 - Try Again
99 - Single Ladies

this is why i don't listen to the radio. there's only like 3 songs i like from that 100 song list. all the rest of them are TERRIBLE and make my ears bleed. how can people like this bullshit?

Good lists. I'm more of a chillout/lounge music fan but once in a while I'll jam out to mainstream/top 40 music. Surprised to see no Toxic on either lists.

I was surprised by how few of those songs I'd ever even heard of... about 50% were completely foreign to me, or I'd heard of them but never heard them; but then the header explained that this was across all of Billboard's genres, which includes music I would never hear, so it made a certain amount of sense. And of the 50% I had heard, almost all of them I loathed or just didn't care about one way or another. So boiling it all down, here's my list of songs I do like from the Top 100 for last Decade:

07 Boom Boom Pow – The Black Eyed Peas
18 Independent Women Part 1 - Destiny's Child
20 Hey Ya! - OutKast
33 Smooth - Santana Featuring Rob Thomas
43 Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
49 Viva la Vida - Coldplay
56 Bad Day - Daniel Powter
64 Disturbia - Rihanna
92 So What - Pink
96 Work It - Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott
97 Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's

I wouldn't put them in that order, though. For example, Pink's "So What" would be at the top and "Boom Boom Pow" would be in the middle somewhere.

That was a blast from the past. I know most of those songs as I avidly followed the charts since 1995 but I stopped, by coincidence as it happened, near the end of 2009. I just lost interest.

My favourites from the list....

#82 - Always On Time (Ja Rule ft. Ashanti)
#74 - Ignition (R. Kelly)
#73 - Love Story (Taylor Swift)
#72 - Right Thurr (Chingy)
#58 - How To Save A Life (The Fray)
#56 - Bad Day (Daniel Powter)
#53 - The Way I Are (Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson)
#51 - If I Ain't Got You (Alicia Keys)
#44 - Promiscous (Timbaland ft. Nelly Furtado)
#15 - U Got It Bad (Usher)
#13 - Big Girls Don't Cry (Fergie)

But just off the top of my head I can think of any number of better similar type of songs that charted in the U.S. that should really have been on this list.

All Good Things Come To An End (Nelly Furtado)
Love Lockdown (Kanye West)
Heartless (Kanye West)
Dangerous (Akon ft. Kardinal Offishall)
How We Do (50 Cent ft. The Game)
Badaboom (B2K)
Clubbin' (Marques Houston)
Ride Wit' Me (Nelly)
Laffy Taffy (D4L)
You Can Do It (Ice Cube)
Frontin' (Pharrell)
Ridin' (Chamillionaire)
Nasty Girl (Notorious B.I.G. ft. P. Diddy & Nelly)
Turn Me On (Kevin Lyttle)

I don't understand what this list was based on. Sales? Airplay? what?? Because it really doesn't make sense to me. "We Belong Together" was number 1?? Really??? I can see it being on the list but not as number one.

I do like most of the songs up there. I just don't agree with the list at all. My favorites are probably Smooth by Matchbox 20 / Santana and a few others.

Well, it says

The most popular songs of the decade (2000-09) across all genres, ranked by radio airplay audience impressions as measured by Nielsen by BDS, sales data as compiled by Nielsen Soundscan, and streaming activity data provided by online sources.

99. Single Ladies (It is a tremendously well done dance song)
98. Try Again
95. Let Me Blow Your Mind
91. Stronger
88. Check Up On It
82. Always On Time
60. Sexyback
58. How To Save A Life
57. Umbrella
50. Get Busy
48. Drop It Like Its Hot
40. Crazy In Love
38. Baby Boy
29. Fallin
24. In Da Club
23. Crank That
20. Hey Ya
18. Independant Women Part 1
12. Family Affair
11. Dilemna
10. Apologize
6. No One
4. How You Remind Me
3. Low

Those are the songs that I would at least listen to the whole way through, some of which I actually enjoy and SOME of which I actually bought!

There are some awful songs there that thankfully the UK was saved from. There are also some awful ones we suffered throught (that f***ing Fergie song). I thought Umbrella would have been Number One, surprised to see it so far down.

Number One, really??

Toxic peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 and was #48 on the year end charts (for 2004) so it obviously fell out of the running for a spot in the top 100 songs from 2000-2009 since it never ranked high enough in its own year of release.

92 so what

74 Ignition
61 I'm yours
57 Umbrella
53 The WAy I area
51 If I Ain't Got You
49 Viva La Vida
33 Smooth
10 apologize
6 No one

I like the others, though. I agree with everyone that Mariah shouldn't be 1 :p

The thing with Billboard is that it creates these lists based on a formula (airplay+sales). That's how they determine which song is the #1 song for the week. Those disagreeing with Mariah Carey being #1 are merely doing so because they don't like her which is fine. However, based on a non-biased formula We Belong Together was the #1 song of the decade which to me was not surprising. She broke and then kept surpassing airplay records when the song came out because it was a multi-format type of song (Pop, R&B, Hiphop, AC all played the song). The most impressive thing is that she also had the #1 song of the 90s with One Sweet Day as well. I'm definitely a child of the 2000s because I know all the songs and with exception love all the songs.

Single Ladies, of course. No one can deny that song and video's impact on pop culture.

I swear to God, I can't tell the difference between 80 of those songs. Ten years in music and this is allegedly the best we can do as a human race? X_X

I'm surprised some of the songs have actually made the list but there definitely was some good music to come out of this decade. Kinda shocked that there's no Nsync, Britney, Christina, Backstreet Boys etc. But I get it. These songs were crossover hits in some ways.

Super stocked to see that Mariah once again had the Number 1 song of a decade.
