Somewhere out there is a chemical someone stumbled on that produces a real tan when taken internally, by triggering the same response cells have to sunlight. I wish I knew what happened, that it disappeared from the radar.

I think I remember that. It was called something like kanthaxanthin, and it made you look kind of orange IIRC. It was withdrawn from the market after some disturbing data about its safety, but I don't remember the details. Liver damage, maybe? Or am I just going on the orange thing?
