2 tongue biden [meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman]

The UN estimated that by the end of 2021, the conflict in Yemen would have caused over 377,000 deaths, with 60% of them the result of hunger, lack of healthcare and unsafe water. It says more than 10,200 children are known to have been killed or wounded as a direct result of the fighting.Mar 22, 2565 BE

And? Iran is still a terrorist regime, and Maduro is still a bloody dictator. If you oppose Saudi Arabia, and you don't oppose the others, that's just hypocrisy.

I don't know what Maduro has got to do with Yemen, but I definitely agree that the civil war there is effectively a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran and that both of those countries are equally at fault.

Saudi Arabia doesn't sell us much oil, it's Biden asking him to sell more oil to Europe. Johnson should be in Riyadh with Macron and that guy in Germany; we can get by just fine.

This is the point that a lot of people are missing.

The US is now energy independent.

But can't backstop the loss of Russian oil to European countries who built their entire energy reliance on Ostpolitik.

How's inflation doing in the US?

The same as it is everywhere. Fact remains that Bides is trying to do something and he's getting shit from people about it. If speaking to Saudi Arabia is so unpleasant, you can go back to burning coal.

Maduro has nothing to do with Yemen, he's just one of the few international pariahs that band together. The OP apparently thinks that buying oil from Iran and Venezuela is somehow preferable to buying it from Saudi Arabia.

Frankly buying it from any of them is problematic. Buying oil at all is problematic. Mohammed bin Salman has the leverage he has because we all burn fossil fuels. Maduro should have leverage considering the amount of oil in Venezuela, but then he let all his infrastructure rot after the predators got kicked out and couldn't help even if we wanted it.

Out of all of this, I can't fathom why Germany thought it was a good idea to put so much of their energy security in Russian hands.

It is SPD and Merkel's biggest failure.

They thought that Ostpolitik would work. That being engaged in a mutually beneficial economic partnership would civilize RuZZia, contain Pootin and allow Germany to shut down their nuclear generating plants.

The US tried to warn Germany and block Nordstream 2...but the fact is, all of western and eastern Europe bought into the 'cheap' energy thing.

And if RuZZia had been able to take Ukraine in 3 days, it would have been business as usual....becoz...wasn't Ukraine happily part of the Romanov empire and the the Soviet Empire?

Ukrainians though, had other plans...like wanting to be part of Europe and NATO. Protecting their own history and heritage and independence.

How is inflation doing in the UK? The same as in US, isn't it? What is your point? Did Biden cause all of YOUR inflation as well?

My point is pretty much what you posted in #10 above. If Saudi Arabia cuts back production, the price of oil goes up worldwide. To say that the US is virtually self-sufficient and therefore somehow outside the global economy misses the point.

The cause of the price hike wasn't Saudi Arabia, it was European reliance on Russia - that got sanctioned because of Putin's invasion. The price of consumer fuel in the US has always been lower than in Europe. I pay $3.85 a gallon, that's 3.24 pounds for 3 1/4 liters, and for us that's shockingly high.

Saudi reduced production because of low demand under lockdown, Europe didn't buy a ton of Saudi oil either - most of it goes to Asia. Until now, when NATO is looking for a way to replace what you can't buy from Putin. Here in Texas where we burn natural gas off the wells as unprofitable byproduct, Exxon is tooling up to sell it to you instead, but that infrastructure has to be built from the ground up and that takes time. Canada is also sitting on an ocean of shale and will eventually be able to be a supplier.

Saudi Arabia is the only choice that's feasible immediately, MBS is obviously aware of that.

The US imports from everywhere and that is why our prices went up. Fuel costs, supply chain issues that didn't have time to recover before the war, corporate greed all contribute.

Nevertheless, Biden's engagement with Saudi Arabia is about reducing European energy dependency on Russia.

The point was and remains that Biden isn't "over there" begging for MBS to sell us anything, he is trying to help our NATO allies.
