Well, I'm almost never the subject of a congratulations thread so I can't be blamed for them. I haven't notice an unusual amount. I think it's just that people are reaching milestone and birthdays all at one time. Most of the time the congratulatory threads are spread out. The current situation is only temporary. Anyway, it's fun to give people a cyber pat on the back.

stopping someones ability to choose is rarely a way to promote diversity.

While it seems like it may be on the surface, you cant limit a thing in hopes of expanding it. that is contrary and contradicting.

GSDX... you expressed your needs and alot of us responded that often post in congrats threads by posting new threads just to make sure you dont feel left out.

congratulations threads are bullshit. The fun and games forum is full of people patting each other on the back for absolutely nothing and we don't really need the same people starting a new thread each time someone makes 2 posts. No wonder this place is becoming as boring as batshit... anything decent is being pushed down... you only get 100 threads now when you search new posts and when 20 or more of them are congratulations it just makes me want to close the window. A congratulations forum wouldn't help either as the same thing would happen if not worse. Posting a lot is not really an achievement in a lot of cases its more a cry for help. Why not just one thread where everyone gets congratulated since some people so obviously need that pat on the back for posting a lot. Last time I looked this place was called just us boys, not just us boys congratulating each other and then getting our own congratulations thread because we happen to say congratulations a thousand times.

We all tried to make more threads today on topics that arent congratulatory so that many people could be included.

it worked

some of them went smoothly, some went whacky, some went south, some didnt get any responses.

its just a weird process that i think is beond our controll

and thats what this is all about

controll of uncontrollable circumstances and situations.

hum...i've never used that function, because it would show me threads in forums i don't even care about. i can see why you'd use it if one goes to bunches of forums though.

do do you have a suggestion other than not posting congrat threads?

Would be neat if there was a function where you can have a selection which part of the forum where you want to see new threads from.

I was just thinking that. Like you can go into your options and pick which forums you would want to see... cos I don't use fun and games or sports.

Do you mean, andreas, that all of those thousands of posts were both engaging and conversational (not to say insightful and witty)? This is not a criticism (tongue in cheek) but an honest question that calls for an honest evaluation from you. For me, this is a place to have fun, help one another if possible, and otherwise just shoot the shit.

Isn't that the truth! I enjoy the "Congratulations" threads--- hopefully they encourage people to keep posting! But they're pretty easy to spot and ignore if they annoy!

I used to not pay them much mind, but i realized its hard to develope positive board relationships if we dont take soem time out from the mania of opinions for random acts of kindness.

people always respond well to kindness

of course, SB has raised a valid point. If you read JUB via the new posts function, then you are not given the option of finding the gems that are not always trafficked so much.

i don't use that function for just that reason. I comb the board the old fashioned way. One thread at a time.

There is nothing “random” about them. They’ve come to be expected… and worse, rehearsed and insincere.

well I will admit that is becomes hard to figure out a new way to say congrats everytime...

I like Ronboys approach to them. He pretty much says congrats in every one of them and in pretty much the same way, yet personalizes the post a little bit in the fine print. That is both fair and comforting to see!!

Getting a " You Rock" post from ronboy always puts a smile on my face.
