Not to be condescending but it is called "the naughts". Naught is an old-English term for zero.

they will refere to us as people in the beginning of the XXI century
in Italian they call 1900 Novecento, so year 2000 would do too.
Also beginnings of the 3rd millenium
or sagger years.

Naught and Ought are perfectly valid terms for the previous decade. Although Top Gear refers to it as the Naughties.

Dammit, a couple years ago I heard a term for the decade from somebody in Australia (MAY HAVE BEEN HERE IN JUB, OR MAYBE NOT) which I really liked a lot...but I forgot what it was! If the comment wasn't on JUB, I forwarded or posted it on JUB somewhere. Anyubody see this?

going with the "Naught" thing I've heard people refer to it as "the naughties" kinda a pun on "naughty"

Let's see. Roaring 20's, Swinging 60's... The three major events that come to mind is the war on terrorism, advances and proliferation of the internet worldwide, and broken economic dreams. The decade of terrorism or the decade of broken dreams is pretty shitty. How about we just cover this up for now, and call it: the decade of cyberspace.

A term which hardly anyone seems to actually use because it sounds...well...odd. It sounds as if you really are denying/forgetting those years. Also, the way it sounds just makes me want to laugh.

I just refer to that decade as the 2000s (two thousands), or the 1900s (nineteen hundreds), 1800s, etc., which is still far from ideal, but it works for me.

I know this thread is about the title of the decade, but I really wouldn't mind forgetting the past ten years. Most of those were pretty crappy anyway...

I assume most people will call them the 2000's, as already mentioned. It's the least confusing, and it works.

There already was a decade of cyberspace. It was called the 1990s.

You're actually quite correct on this count. The 2000s, while it did have its occasional good points, was, on the whole, a pretty miserable decade in many ways. I still remember New Year's Eve of 2001 and how everyone was desperately anxious for that year to be gone and 2002 to arrive.

The 00's. i'll always think of my teenage years and graduating high school(06) It's just weird to say and also in that time I really don't think we had particularly distictive styles in terms of clothing or music like the 70's or 80's for example. We may think differently when more time passes but I guess the 00's don't seem too different from now. I think also the beginnings of centuries are transitional times, just like the beginnings of decades are. For example the 1890's complared to the 1910's and 1920's was a big difference but that time in between was kinda odd and non-descript. The beginning of the 20th century, the horse and buggy thing was still going on and people were settling in. Then things changed year by year. Next thing you know technology enabled cars and even planes to come into peoples' lives. And the early womens' movement began, so styles began to change drastically. Only time will tell the distintion of the 1990's to the 2010's and 2020's.

"The 2000s", and then the Tens/teens, twenties, thirties, fourties, etc. ..just like every other century. 1900s were called "the nine-teen hundreds."

A lot of the styles, especially in clothing and hair, were vaguely retro, especially retro-70s, then retro 80s. Some styles carried over from the 90s. Yes, I think we need a little more timespace to really assess everything the 2000s (or the "00s" -- how do you pronounce that? :)) were about.

Totally agree and I say 00's as "the zero's" lol.

On another note, I love the hot ass profile pic! Where's it from?

Well, it's "aughts", not "oughts".

And any program or movie that I've ever seen that discusses
the first decade of the 1900's (or i800's, etc.) either refers
to it as the "turn of the century" or the "early 1900's".
as is "automobiles became more prevalent at the
turn of the century", or "few homes had
electricity in the early 1900's", so I
suspect it will be the same for the
first decade of this century.
