2000-2010: The Forgotten Decade?

The 2000s brought a huge wave of pop mixed with electronic music, pretty much synthpop, electro-pop, dance-pop and some rock-pop. And, of course, the over-use of the infamous Auto-Tune. I don't hate it...it has just allowed an enormous amount of talentless hacks with little knowledge of music to become huge stars.

The only one I have really heard it referred to as is the 'Naughties'. Other than 9/11, the decade doesn't hold any major memories for me - and very few happy ones. Even musically, it was a dreadful decade (but then, I was spoiled as a child of the 80s). I'd be quite content to forget it.

Since nobody seems to have anything nice to say about them, i'll just call them the PreTeens.;)

"The 2000s", and then the Tens/teens, twenties, thirties, fourties, etc. ..just like every other century. 1900s were called "the nine-teen hundreds."

This is what I've been saying.

And as some have already said, I think we're too fresh out of the last decade to properly look back at it with nostaglia.

Not true at all.

The 2000s were when:

* 14-year old boys had a razor scooter, three-quarter length pants and listened to rap metal, Limp Bizket and Eminem all day. They also acted like they were stereotypically thuggish black people.

* Jessica Alba was 19 years old and had just become famous for Dark Angel.

* Everyone had cell phones, but no one texted or was able take pictures with them; they only made phone calls and played Snake with them.

* Few or none of our songs had that annoying Autotune effect yet (except Believe by Cher, and that came out in the '90s).

* Ricky Martin, Neil Patrick Harris, Jodie Foster, Rosie O'Donnell, David Hyde Pierce, or many of our "family values" politicians and religious leaders had not yet come out, or had been outed as gay.

etc etc. Makes you feel old, don't it?
