Now that I've received feedback on the Best New Artist accolade at the Grammys (nominations to be announced in just 8 weeks!), here's what I see happening in the Best Pop Vocal, Female category. I don't think NARAS thinks too much of this award because they always give it out during the first 30 minutes of the show (if televised at all!). Hmmmphhh!!!

* SHAWN COLVIN
These Four Walls
Naras adores this venerabel singer - songwriter & never missed a chance
to pat her on the back for a job well done in the past; she did well this year.
Even Entertainment Weekly gave her "Four Walls" opus an "A-" Colvin's
had many Grammy nominations in this category but never won this
particular one.

* NELLY FURTADO
Promiscuous, Single
2002 winner in this category won't fare as lucky this year. The immense
commercial appeal of her "Loose" album will more than likely be the
only thing allowing her inclusion in the category this year.

* CORINNE BAILEY RAE
Put Your Records On, Single
If the academy allows her to perform on the show this year and she
is as great live as she was on 'Saturday Night Live' two weeks ago, then it's
gonna be hard to see this star-in-the-making go home empty handed!

* CHRISTINA AGUILERA
Ain't No Other Man, Single
Almost every song on 'Back To Basics' is the imprint of best female
vocalist ... which leads me to believe the panel will give the woman who is
already Grammy heavy at such a young age, the Best Pop Vocal Album
instead of this prize. Still, she poses a serious threat and it's possible
there "ain't no other woman"!

* KT TUNSTALL
Black Horse & The Cherry Tree, Single
Before anybody knew who she was, she was getting props on 'American
Idol,' had a huge hit on the charts without featuring any rappers
on her hit and anybody that knows the Grammys knows that they LOVE
giving this big trophy to brilliant newbies that show potential
beyond vocal prowess (think Tracy Chapman, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones,
etc.. My money is all on Tunstall taking this one and many more.

I doubt Christina would get it. She tries way too hard. Not to mention, Grammys seem to not be based on talent and popularity. Moreso whos overexposed. The people that deserve them rarely get them.

I think Christina will get in. The Grammys love her and I think she's gonna be nominated for "Hurt" instead of "ANOM".

Don't count out Beyoce either. A lot of people didn't like her album but the critics seemed to think it was ok. Plus she's got a movie coming out which her visibility alone could remind the Academy that she's in the running.

Seriously, why do you feel the need to bring Christina down in every thread she's mentioned in?

Well, with Hurt, I could see her winning. A phenomenal song sang to perfection, but ANOM just doesn't seem...Grammy-worthy. It just doesn't seem like an award-winning song.

Win my Britney should have won BEST NEW ARTIST butt.

"Hurt is a poor mans version of Luther Vandross's "Dance with my father".

I can't stand her.

Cant wait for the big Britney comeback.

Promisuous is going to win a grammy maybe best rap/sung collaboration but i cant see Nelly winning for best female pop vocal because its a duet and she is talk rapping not singing.

Rihanna has a good shot for "Unfaithfull" that was big hit and showed her vocal range. She could also get it for S.O.S a true pop song.

Tanya Stephens - These Streets

JoJo - Too little, too late (if her label submits her)

Paris Hilton - Stars Are Blind ( Hey you never know and the song rocked)

Britney was by far NOT the best new artist. As much of a fan as I was back then, I would have said she deserved it. In reality, she doesn't. Maybe a dance one, but best new artist? Come on. Performer with Studio Magic verses REAL singer. I'm not saying by any way that Britney has no talent, I love her, but come on now. That would be like giving Madonna a Grammy for Best Vocalist of All Time. She'd more fittingly be the Best Performer of All-time, which I really wouldn't argue.

^ For your sake i am going to ignore that comment.

Forget that...

Brit paved the way for pop in the late 90's and everyone else followed. She worked her butt off and deserved recognition. She never claimed to be Celine dion, however she is an overall performer and did it the best.

Britney was robbed plain and simple.

Even if Macy Grey had won BEST NEW ARTIST that year, i would have been ok with it. But to give that carbon copy witch the award really pissed me off in 2000; Took me and some friends a while to get over that travesty.

Came full circle when she FINALLY got a grammy for TOXIC.

For my sake? Right. But Christina paved the way for herself with her voice and a bit more maturity in her lyrics. Sue, she slutted it up, but she had the obvious talent to back it up. So Britney spawned 4562345623 people that really couldn't sing that well, rarely sang live, and danced across stages to a pre-recorded version of a popular hit. Grammy worthy? No. She's good at what she does, but she doesn't deserve a Grammy. Not everyone deserves a Grammy. Video awards, yes. But Grammy, no. If it was between Christina and Britney when it comes to vocals, lyrics, arrangements, etc, Christina will always win. She's got both up on Britney. And besides, Grammy's aren't based on how good a performer is. If it were, Janet and Madonna would be racking up. But, luckily both have good voices too lol but they still don't rack up...but ANYWAY. Obviously we won't agree on it, but if you know what the Grammys stand for, then you would agree. And besides, Grammys mean nothing nowadays.

Christina is going to win for "Hurt." No competition. Who else is out there right now with X's amazing voice???? Rihanna???? Again, no comp.

Exactly. And the thing is it should be between Christina and Beyonce, but nobody will vote for Beyonce because her album tanked, so to speak. It didnt do that bad but it didn't do good, either. Maybe "Irreplacable" will change that because it seems radio is heating up on that one. Then, Christina may have some competition

I think it's a given that christina will get best vocal. I mean if the grammy committee isn't completely stupid thats obvious. But Beyonce is competition for her.

And whoever said ANOM isn't grammy worthy, why not? Beyonce got many for CIL which isn't such a Grammy worthy song. ANOM is definately GrammyWorthy if Crazy In Love was.

Christina is the best. I hope she wins because she truly deserves it (no matter what people say).

my picks

Jessica Simpson-A Public Affair
Christina Aquilera-Ain't No Other Man
KT Tunstall-Black Horse and the Cherry Tree
Pink-Stupid Girl
Kelly Clarkson-Walk Away

I'm sorry, but Christina's back to basics is NOT grammy worthy. To quote Scott Storch, the album is "full of fillers, oversinging and lame Vegas-like cabaret music." Sure, Christina is a marvelous vocalist... but I still feel she just tries to show off her voice in most songs rather than emotion.

Well....she is a VOCALIST isn't that what vocalists do? Anyway, her vocal aren't over the top on this album anyway. Do you even have it? Scott Storch is just a bitter asshole. You think he'd be singing that song if he HAD gotten the chance to work w/ Mrs. Aguilera-Bratman? Hell to the nah, I think not lol.

Theres only a select few songs where she' is REALLY showcasing her vocals.

Christina DOES oversing on this record. But you know what? Its annoying sometimes but who DOESNT do it? Celine does it. Mariah does it. The great vocalists show off. And they should. Sometimes the songs don't turn out as much as I wish they did, but as much as I dislike oversinging, if you can, do it lol.
