the longer bush stayed the course and denied a problem, the further they slipped.

this is why the conservatives here want to stop talking about bush so very badly

they know that he is going to stick to the next candidate they run.

democrats are the only viable option because they are the only ones not pretending that Iraq is not in a civil war.

they are the ones telling the trutrh and the public knows it.

I saw on the web, that Jeb Bush hasn't ruled out running for President after all. Lord help us! Say it isn't so. That's all we need, another Bush in the office. Talk about bringing a person down.

not to worry...as soon as mrs. pelosi takes her oath of office, the gay ol' party will find it's voice again and start bashing her "san francisco values" (which really the repubs should love cause they're all gay), attack the dems relentlessly til the dems fold as they tend to do, and probably ride tim johnson's dead body back to control of the senate. let's not underestimate the ruthlessness of these people...they were after a period of years in power caught in a storm (iraq, foley, corruption) they couldn't control but they're literally and figuratively burying the last vestiges of decency in their party (ford and moderate northeast repubs). they'll come into '08 with hundreds of millions more than the dems as usual and even more vicious and evil than before. since when do we underestimate the devil?

Nov 2008 is a LONG ways off, so don't get too far ahead in your predictions. Interesting article in my local paper "The Oregonian" dated 1/2/2008 which can be found on www.OregonLive.com

The title of the article is "Democrats in Salem not exactly team unity" It talks about how party members in the Legislature come from across the state and hold views across the spectrum.

Even though they are talking about Oregon, the concept I believe is reflective of the congress also and the national picture. We will have to see what happens once the legislatures and Congress swing into action next week.

My my my, what have we here? Seems recent national polling shows both Sen. Clinton and Al Gore are poised to give a beating to McCain or Giuliani.

Gee, How Can That Be? The Republicans have spent MONTHS spreading the lie that Clinton was unelectable but it seems that lie won't work. So, what happened? Why is the GOP going into the equal of cardiac arrest? What happened to the "Straight Talk Express?" Did that bus leave the station already -- has Senator John "Escalate the War" McCain talked himself into an early retirement to Kookyville? Is Rudy "Operated by the Mob" Giuliani about to be indicted or something?

What the hell happened to the GOP?

Well I seem to recall the "Republican Leadership" and their apologists getting all moist in their panties about Hillary making a run for '08, because they were under the assumption that THEY WOULD still be in POWER.

I for one have seen, under Karl Rove, what the RNC is capable of. I might also ad, that they didn't get to be in power without the likes of Karl Rove.

Sadly when the RNC is in power all that can do is nothing but make their corporate sponsors/lobbiests/campaign contributors rich, and when they're out of power can to nothing but take strengths in this country and turn them into weaknesses.

Oh, to meet a Reagan Republican, or a Barry Goldwater Conservative! :help:

I heard recently that there is a growing schism in the Republican party between the fiscal conservatives (who are more social moderate in their positions) and the extreme right-wing religious idealogues. If that schism really exists and widens, it might prove a very trying period for the GOP. And if Iraq is still in the headlines come 08, then it might be very difficult for any Republican presidential candidate to win. As it stands, the religious right has never trusted McCain and they'd most likely view Giuliani, who's pro-choice and pro gay rights as being too liberal. That might find them turning to Brownback of Kansas or Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts. But in politics a month can be an eternity and 08 is quite a ways off yet.

It didn't work when she first ran for the Senate either. I vividly remember listening to Rush Limbaugh and how he would rail on her on a daily basis and would always say how his "instinct" told him that not only would she not win but she wouldn't even run. He even said that it wasn't worth talking about her because the notion of her running was so outlandish (to him).
Maybe he was doing his drugs back then.

I always resented her carpet bagging in my state but I still voted for her.

Given other choices what happens there?

Just food for thought. I predict a repeat of 74. Strong 10 year run of Dems in the Senate, loss of faith in the Executive Branch leading to the election of a weak overwhelmed democrat for the bully pulpit. Of which he will give back to a Gay Ole Party pundit right around four years later.

And yes I said he, the dems may be at each others throats on every other issue but they will not be foolish enough to temp loss by putting Hillary or Barack up front. Look for Barack to ride shotgun on a Edwards ticket.

I agree a dem romping is on our doorsteps, hopefully they will do it fast and hot ....hot enough to burn themselves out of power, like the pugs my favorite pet.

Please brush and floss after consuming this sweet morsel of knowledge.

Well the interesting thing here is that Karl Rove took over the Texas Republican Party by playing to the Evangelicals. Rove knew that if they could get the "churches" out to vote they could win any election.

It was here in Texas where Rove began using a percieved strength as a weekness. For example the late great Ann Richards had the most diversified staff in the history of ANY Governor that has served before or since. Rove turned that into a weakness stating that Governor Richards was promoting homosexuality throughout Texas, and it is reported that Rove started the "whisper campaigns" about other minorities.

Of course we know that those tactics and others have since been taken to a national level. If you can't debate the issues debate the debater. :(

The schism that you're refering too within the Republican Party has been there for at least 8 to 10 years. Moderates within the Republican Party have affectively been stiffled, if not compelely shut out within the party.

I think that if the moderates, or the true "big-tent" Republicans get their voice back then the Republican Party may once again be a party to reckon with. Until then, I'm not holding my breath.

I read in the December 25, 2006/January 1, 2007 Issue of Time Magazine,

San Francisco's Nancy Pelosi, 66, who will become the first female Speaker of the House, kept the spotlight on G.O.P. ethics scandals, and Iraq, not herself, neutralizing Republican charges of liberalism and national-security weakness.

It will be interesting for sure to see if the Democrats come up with a message (backed up with action), and whether or not the Republican moderates can reclaim their party between now and 2008.

unless we pass a simple hate crimes bill, Alfie. Because then, all bets are off, and the laser like focus of the homophobic mobs of America will adopt such a laser like focus on 'the gays' (see how well that worked in 2006 when the GOP tried that stale, tired gay marriage amendment one more time and the evangelicals tried to gain support after the NJ marriage ruling, *ONE WEEK BEFORE THE ELECTION*?), and an anti-Dem tsunami will sweep the GOP back into power. If we pass a simple hate crimes bill, it doesn't matter who the presidential nominee is - the GOP will gain 90 seats in the Senate, 400 seats in the House, and the GOP presidential nominee will carry 49 states (except for saintly Massachusetts, of course, where 42 bigoted Dems in the state legislature help a whopping 21 state legislative Republicans start the process so the majority can take away the rights of a minority; so much for the Equal Protection Guarantee of the 14th amendment...). Iraq who? What? Iraq? Isn't that a flavor of tomato sauce or a brand of car oil, or something? 'Corruption'? Isn't that a synonym for the principles behind Einstein's Theory of Relativity?

So I guess this needs the caveat that gay people must actively oppose any gay rights legislation for the next two years or 'ruin' things the way the NJ supreme court ruling on gay marriage handed the GOP reins on the 110th congress... oh, wait it didn't...? Sorry, musta got my wires crossed...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
