Adult. Announces New Album for Ghostly

First, there was the reissue of their debut LP, Resuscitation, and then the new 7" of covers, all of which gave us the feeling that, yes, Detroit's seminal electro-punk flagbearers in Adult. were gearing up to release their first LP of new material since 2007. And the moment has indeed arrived. The Way Things Fall is scheduled to appear this spring via Ghostly. According to producer Adam Lee Miller, the forthcoming 10-track album is, "the closest [Adult. has] come to writing traditional 'pop' songs, even though we know they are totally mutants." It's anyone's guess exactly what that means, but we're sure as the release date—May 14—approaches, we'll all hopefully have a chance to hear a few examples of the music and gather more clues. For now, Adult. and Ghostly have shared an intriguing little promo video, the album's artwork, and its tracklist, all of which can be found below.

01 Heartbreak
02 Idle (Second Thoughts)
03 Tonight We Fall
04 New Frustration
05 Love Lies
06 At the End of it All
07 Nothing Lasts
08 A Day Like Forever
09 We Will Rest

London dance-pop wizards will cover Bruce Springsteen

Stuart Price, who produced Pet Shop Boys' upcoming album, told SPIN recently the effort was going to be "a dance record," and "every track is going to have that euphoric, fresh feel to it." The London synth-pop gurus have now announced they'll release Electric, their second album in less than a year, on July 15 via their new x2 imprint through Kobalt Label Services. The duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe describes the album as "pretty banging," and the track list, containing eight new songs plus a Bruce Springsteen cover, is below. British singer/rapper Example guests on one track.

Pet Shop Boys have also shared the first song from the new record, "Axis," in the form of a hallucinatory music video. With a repeated "electric energy" vocoder hook atop rubbery synth-pop that could form a bridge between Cerrone and David Guetta, it's definitely euphoric, definitely pretty banging, but after last year's disappointing Elysium, it doesn't exactly allay concerns about songwriting. The raver-friendly visuals include Tron-like flashing lights, an elegant dancing couple, and what look to be the Boys themselves, hidden behind animal heads.

Along with the album will be a global tour, which starts next month in South America and stops through Europe and Asia before toucing down in North America in September and October.

Electric track list:

1. “Axis”
2. “Bolshy”
3. “Love Is a Bourgeois Construct”
4. “Fluorescent”
5. “Inside a Dream”
6. “The Last to Die” (Bruce Springsteen cover)
7. “Shouting in the Evening”
8. “Thursday” (feat. Example)
9. “Vocal”

Deerhunter's new album, Monomania, is out May 7 via 4AD. Recorded at Rare Book Room Studio in Brooklyn with producer Nicolas Vernhes. Bassist Josh Fauver has been replaced by Josh McKay.

Monomania:

01 Neon Junkyard
02 Leather Jacket II
03 The Missing
04 Pensacola
05 Dream Captain
06 Blue Agent
07 T.H.M.
08 Sleepwalking
09 Back to the Middle
10 Monomania
11 Nitebike
12 Punk (La Vie Anté:rieure)

Bradford Cox's late friend Jay Reatard is all over this album. Not a bad thing at all, but a far cry from the Deerhunter fans have grown to love. Which doesn't mean they won't grow to love this Deerhunter. If the dreamy, blissed-out Deerhunter of the past had his head in the clouds, the Deerhunter of Monomania has plummeted to the street.
Neon Junkyard is a great opener that suggests the distortion and feedback of Turn It Up, Faggot and catchy rhythms of Cryptograms, but that sound is often backgrounded to a garage-style punk sound throughout most of the record. About half of the songs here are really hard not to like, the most pop-friendly Deerhunter has ever been. The most accessible of which might be mistaken for the impressive new Strokes material a few unfortunate souls have anticipated for the past decade, and never received. And this is still better that that ever could be. The Missing, Dream Captain, Blue Agent, Sleepwalking, and Back to the Middle could all be very successful summer singles. Yet for some reason, the lead single chosen is the album's title track. Which isn't a bad song, but in some way seems to sum up the point of the album, yet remains one of the less impressive, and harshest sounding tracks. But at least it's fun, which I can't really say for the following Nitebike, which sounds like a Kurt Vile outtake that doesn't go anywhere.
Anyhow, most of this record is fantastic and worth everyone's time. If you haven't enjoyed Deerhunter in the past, you might just find yourself tapping your foot to Monomania, certainly their most fun and least cerebral of albums yet, but still reinforces the band's tendency to release increasingly pop-oriented albums with a mere hint of the noise they once made.

Freerange Records will release Jimpster's latest album, Porchlight and Rockingchairs, this May.

The LP is Jimpster's first album since Amour in 2006. The seven-year gap between full-lengths, though, certainly doesn't imply the man born Jamie Odell hasn't been keeping busy. As the founder of Freerange, he has a hand in a label with one of the tighter release schedules in the business. His other label project, Delusions of Grandeur, has also been notably active since its founding in 2009. Porchlight and Rockingchairs stands to reflect Odell's life on the move. He found inspiration for the album's 12 tracks in the lonely, hungover hours he spends most weekends at airports on the way home from parties, which he says is where many of his tracks get their start. The album features a vocal collaboration with Swedish singer Jonatan Bäckelie, as well as a new version of Jimpster's recent single "These Times" with Beauty Room member Jinadu.

Tracklist

01. Jasmine Dragon
02. Dance Of The Pharoes
03. Hold My Hand

The digital version will contain the Lykke Li track as well.
