On Topic Discussion 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2)

What's that event, some sort of redneck Black Sabbath?

More like Black Death.

Half a million people from all over America descend upon a small South Dakota town of 7,000 people. What could possibly go wrong?

The State of South Dakota makes about $1.3 million dollars in tax revenue from the event. So, they won't cancel it.

Wow.

1.3 million?

Although I imagine a lot of other people in the town rely on this 'festival' to pay their bills for the year.

And of course...a lot of the riders are not going to necessarily be the healthiest people to begin with.

But if there's a bright side....it is that there will likely be a lot of used bikes for sale on Kijiji in a month.

In the US, we've administered 400,000,000 doses of the vaccines. During that time, providers have reported 6,490 deaths among people who received the vaccines- this includes ALL deaths, including those from natural causes.

What the heck?! Why are they reporting it this way? If someone got the vaccine and they died from a pre-existing cancer or they were in a car crash, are they in that 6,490 number? What possible reason is there for including deaths completely unrelated to Covid or the vaccine in this statistic? It's like feeding red meat on silver platter to the anti-vaxxers!

question about US died from covid, are the numbers counted only from ''official buildings'' such as hospitals and age care only ?
I believe many more people not bother to go to hospitals because they think their symptoms are not serious until too late or the costs $ are too high.

''Moderna's doses contain 100 micrograms of vaccine, while Pfizer's contains 30 micrograms.''

Why the huge difference ?

Believe it or not, tax revenues went up when 2020 is compared to 2019!

It's the EUA. The requirements for reporting under an EUA say, "Serious adverse events regardless of causality."

Anyone can submit a report. This is an example of the report about an 85 year old woman in a nursing home who died the day after receiving the vaccine: "My grandmother died a few hours after receiving the moderna covid vaccine booster 1. While I don't expect that the events are related, the treating hospital did not acknowledge this and I wanted to be sure a report was made."

I am in favor of open disclosure and even with the broad mandate of the EUA, the numbers have been much lower than we anticipated. For example, the incidence of anaphylaxis was the same for the COVID-19 vaccine vs the influenza vaccine (~ 1/1,000,000 doses). In spite of this, under the EUA, we required people to stay at the vaccination site for 15 minutes after their shot.

What I do wish more data was collected on was the incidence of complications from people who recovered from COVID-19. My colleagues are saying that about 8-10% of the patients who had symptomatic COVID-19 infections are having residual symptoms that fall into the definition of "long-hauler" syndrome. The lowest report that I've heard of was 5%. That means that 1,787,065 people- conservatively- are reporting long-term symptoms after COVID-19.

Yeah, apparently, bullshit drama stories on news sites, and calling people stupid instead of offering solid, trustworthy information is working magically.

The solid, trustworthy information has always been out there.

But it isn't what people apparently want to read. Or believe. They would much rather listen to FOX. To right wing politicians. To their Aunt Lil and Uncle Jim Bob who want to own the libs.

But it literally came down to three things. Get the vaccine. Wear a mask. Social distance. Not complicated.

The rapid decline may be a good sign though.

Everyone please wear a mask and get vaccinated. I have paid a close friend to get both shots(Black), talked my 27yo nephew into getting both shots(Black) and my 12yo autistic nephew(white) just got his first shot with my encouragement. My close friend that is Black that I paid to get vaccinated is 26 and those young people think they are invincible, remember when we thought that way when we were younger? Please a lot of kids are going to get sick and die this Fall and Winter. I know we are tired of the pandemic and so am I. The Delta Variant is terrible and there is a good possibility and even worse one will come around.

Take care of yourselves please.

/\ Without each State's current population to calculate percentage, those numbers don't mean much, do they?
Yes, a map of "per capita" would be much more representative, but such things are never shown. The "red" states would absolutely dominate.

Anyway, you know that this virus will always remain the Chinese virus, just like the Spanish flu remains the Spanish flu
Though it really should be called the KANSAS flu, because that's most probably where it really started.

I've always been sexually attracted to PC Principal and I don't care who knows it.
