From memory (mine has been failing me a lot lately btw), blankets laced with smallpox and other infected material never really had that big of an impact on the Indian population. Most of the devastation of their pop was due to direct contact and their culture being ill-equipped to handle epidemics.

Given that one of the Doctors treating patients has already died and that caregivers are wearing diapers under their sealed hazmat suits to save decontam time....it might be wise for people to take the illness seriously.

I think in early 2000, our department of health in the Philippines reported that coronavirus is one ofnour may seasonal endemic viruses and that most Filipinos are immune to most strains. Which is why we didn't get hit much even though we have a lot Chinese tourists and flights from China.

This one however is a new weird strain.

China confirmed 769 new coronavirus cases in the 24-hour period that ended at midnight on Sunday.

There are now more than 2700 cases reported in China.

The media is not only reporting FACTS. They made up half truth facts. Especially in politics.

Interesting and relevant to the threat that this mutating coronavirus presents if it is not contained as ruthlessly and diligently as possible.

In 1917, flu was circulating through the European countries and the military bases....in late November, it had mutated and spread and triggered off the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic that infected over 500 million people and may have killed as many as 50 to 100 million. Including my own great-grandmother.

At this point, the WHO and the other health bodies around the globe will be looking at the rate and ease of spread of the disease. Since it is concentrated in a few centres in China, those populations will become the relevant denominators in evaluating incidence and prevalence.

I am sure that China will be looking for the number of cases per 24 hour period to drop in order to be assured that this isn't going to explode into a major epidemic or pandemic. And whether any increase exponential.

China is still allowing Wuhan residents from leaving (or has allowed them). Apparently, the signs were already showing up as early as October.

My country just stopped 500 wuhan "tourists" who landed in one of our airports.

To keep things somewhat in perspective, apparently over 6000 people have died in the US so far from this year's flu virus. Over 60,000 are expected to die this year.

And this is with flu shots and reasonably healthy resistance to this strain among the general population.
