This is primarily a respiratory-transmitted virus. Generally, workers in meat processing plants aren't coughing and sneezing on the meat. They however are sneezing, coughing and breathing virus on each other.

Results of one of the French studies hydroxychloroquine. The study included 181 patients- 84 of whom were treated with the drug and the rest were not. In both groups 20% of the patients died indicating the drug did not change outcome. About 10% of the group who received the drug developed cardiac problems that resulted in the drug being discontinued.

Results
This study included 181 patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia; 84 received HCQ within 48 hours of admission (HCQ group) and 97 did not (no-HCQ group). Initial severity was well balanced between the groups. In the weighted analysis, 20.2% patients in the HCQ group were transferred to the ICU or died within 7 days vs 22.1% in the no-HCQ group (16 vs 21 events, relative risk [RR] 0.91, 95% CI 0.47–1.80). In the HCQ group, 2.8% of the patients died within 7 days vs 4.6% in the no-HCQ group (3 vs 4 events, RR 0.61, 95% CI 0.13–2.89), and 27.4% and 24.1%, respectively, developed acute respiratory distress syndrome within 7 days (24 vs 23 events, RR 1.14, 95% CI 0.65–2.00). Eight patients receiving HCQ (9.5%) experienced electrocardiogram modifications requiring HCQ discontinuation.

Interpretation
These results do not support the use of HCQ in patients hospitalised for documented SARS-CoV-2-positive hypoxic pneumonia.

87 NHS workers in the UK have died from COVID-19, including a pregnant nurse.

Pregnant nurse dies of Covid-19 but baby survives after emergency C-section [CNN]

The baby of a pregnant nurse who died of Covid-19 is doing "very well" after being delivered via emergency cesarean section, a spokeswoman for the UK's National Health Service (NHS) told CNN on Thursday.

Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, who worked at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, northwest of London, was admitted to the hospital on April 7 after testing positive for the virus two days earlier.

The 28-year-old died on Sunday, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust confirmed in a statement on Wednesday. She had worked for the hospital system for five years.

At least 27 NHS workers have now died from coronavirus, UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said Thursday in an interview with the BBC.

A couple of hospitals in NYC have begun testing all pregnant women who are admitted for delivery. They're finding that about 15% of women in NYC are infected, even if they have no symptoms. Many public health officials have speculated that the background infection rate is about 5% of the public, so this is an indicator that in some areas, the infection rates could be significantly higher.

A universal screening program for COVID-19 coronavirus infection among pregnant women at two New York City hospitals revealed that 15% tested positive for the virus at delivery but very few showed symptoms.

Of 215 women who delivered infants at these hospitals, 29 of 33 women positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, were asymptomatic, reported Dena Goffman, MD, of Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and colleagues in a New England Journal of Medicine letter.

The authors said they diagnosed their first case of COVID-19 among an obstetrical patient on March 13, and observed two patients who were initially asymptomatic, but later developed symptoms and tested positive for the virus.

Following these two cases, the authors said a universal testing program was implemented, where all patients admitted for delivery were tested for SARS-CoV-2.

Nice catch on the story. One nerdy correction- Cuomo was in isolation. Isolation is for infected people; quarantine is for people who may have been exposed or might be susceptible to exposure.

Violating isolation is a big no no... and this is an example of why infected people need to stay in isolation until they test negative. There's no excuse... Cuomo knew better.

I feel sorry for the family- they're all back in isolation until they all test negative. Chris however can get out of the basement since they all have it now.

I was just reading about the possibility of Vitamin D intake helping to resist the Coronavirus infection and/0r minimize the damage but they are still investigating.

It seems like something that is doable. My doctor was adamant about me taking Vitamin D many years ago now and I have taken it daily for many years and during that general time period it seemed everyone I knew got the same suggestion from their doctors.

I also read that exposure to sunlight increases the effect if you take it.

Good idea? I do it anyway but thinking maybe I should double it just in case.

It seems like something that is doable. My doctor was adamant about me taking Vitamin D many years ago now and I have taken it daily for many years and during that general time period it seemed everyone I knew got the same suggestion from their doctors.
