On 20-May, Cyclone Amphan hit parts of Bangladesh and eastern India, packing 115 mph winds and causing massive flooding. In the evacuations and subsequent relocation of people, Bangladesh's COVID-19 cases went from 26,738 on 20-May to 55,140 today- over doubling in 2 weeks..

Today, Cyclone Nisarga is off the coast of Mumbai- a city of 19 million people. Forecasts call for massive flooding. Indian officials are in the process of evacuating a field hospital in the area that has over 1,000 COVID-19 patients in it.

We have a whole army of republicans and right wing christians who think the whole thing is a hoax and they refuse to social distance or wear masks. I am not guessing this - they are very happy to let you know. They initially tried shaming people who had a mask on which is more of us and that fizzled relatively fast because the overwhelming majority of us have masks.

Having said that - we can all get free tests now so there will be alot more positives. In my county we have something like 18 locations to do this. The only thing is I am not sure if they are able to classify it as active or just have anti bodies from previously being exposed.

Another factor - our Governor and our Health Officials are not actively covering up the numbers to hide the real problem - I do believe many other states are doing just that.

California has been better on accepting mask-wearing and there's also a better comprehension that the masks are for cases when physical distancing is not possible. In photos from the California BLM protests, there are more masks being worn by protesters when compared to places like Atlanta and other areas of the South.

Having said that - we can all get free tests now so there will be alot more positives. In my county we have something like 18 locations to do this. The only thing is I am not sure if they are able to classify it as active or just have anti bodies from previously being exposed.

States should be reporting antigen tests separately from antibody tests- both in the number of tests and the number of positives for each type. Where many States are failing is that they aren't assigning counties to their testing numbers, so it's difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of testing and where "hot spots" have developed.

When evaluating tests results, there's a challenge because there has been so much antigen undertesting that we never really got a peg on the number of people who were exposed between Jan and May. Now that there is more antibody testing, we will begin to uncover the number of people who contracted coronavirus.

What we expect is that 3-5% of the general population has contracted the virus at some point. In urban areas, particularly areas with high public transport usage, the antibody rates are expected to be between 5-15%.

If mass testing programs are showing infection rates higher the expected percentage, that population is probably being undertested.

For example, at the beginning of May, NY state had tested 985,911 people with a 31.3% positive rate. Today, they reported 2,293,032
tested with a 16.3% rate which means that they are testing a larger population instead of just testing people who appear to have COVID-19. The more people that they test, the closer they will get to the actual percentage of people who are infected which means they can get those people isolated early, hopefully before they infect other people.

I am no longer counting on getting a vaccine before I get infected. I will still wear a mask in public. Instead, I am trying to get in the best physical shape I can get in, exercising, eating right, losing those last 5 pounds I need to get down to my ideal BMI, and making sure I am not deficient in the vitamins associated with better outcomes: A, C, D, E, and zinc.

UK's calculated mortality based upon today's numbers would be 14.1%. That hints that they've undertested. If we were to assume that 2% of the people who contract COVID-19 expired, we would estimate that UK would have 1,999,350 cases instead of the 283,080 cases they have reported.

Similar logic would put US at 5.4 million cases... astounding numbers to contemplate.

The strategies you mention- getting in shape, exercising, eating well- are never bad ideas.

When this whole thing started, it was spreading so fast and there wasn't information on how it was spreading so fast.

What we've learned in the past 4 months is that this virus spreads most efficiently via respiratory means. It loves cramped confined spaces like subway cars and restaurants. It loves places where people are hugging and spending a lot of time in close contact with each other- like church services, funerals and meatpacking plants. Avoiding crowds, physical distancing and wearing masks in public places is still the best risk reduction.

Some of the things that we were uncertain about- the transmission of the virus on inanimate objects like items in the grocery store or takeout food- have proven to be much less of a concern. We're not seeing massive numbers of cases of people contracting the virus from inanimate objects.

The eye-opener for me was one of the first cases reported in NYC. The man who was infected also infected his family members and the man who drove him to the hospital. That single case was traced to hundreds of infections in people who had attended religious services and private gatherings where he was present. That's very typical of respiratory viruses.

There's two areas of uncertainty: asymptomatic carriers and lack of mass testing of the population. This uncertainty is why we're having to assume that people are infected and why we can't be certain that we ourselves might are not infected. Again, masks and handwashing are going to be the best defense until there is a vaccine or a treatment for those who develop severe symptoms from COVID-19.

Wow - just signed up for a test and it was very easy - got one for this coming Monday which is always nice not to have to wait. - only a couple miles away and I could walk there if I felt like it.

I noticed something though. As you pointed out the differences in the states' testing it is true that here are only a few states that have this system available as far as I can tell. On the drop down menu where it asks for your state name - California was 1st and they are in alphabetical order - Illinois was 2nd. I didn't see who else was on the list but I did notice it wasn't very long.

I think it should be available to all 50 states and the territories NOW!
