Another good analysis of why masks work...

Masks are now compulsory in Melbourne, Australia.
Shame they didn't do this earlier.

Our governor tried, butt the republican't controlled state legislature sued him, and the "conservative leaning" state supreme court ruled in their favor. The only thing Tony can do is issue strong advisories for now. Same limits are on Milwaukee's mayor, and our county supervisor, too.

They are trying, and we're doing the best we can, given our current warped state. Given who all is up for election, we can only get to Purple, at state level, this November. We're definitely aiming for Blue after that. I'm predicting "Sleepy Joe" will take Wisconsin in the Electoral College.

It isn't because of more testing.

In a nutshell, testing in the U.S. has grown 80% since early June. Daily case counts have grown 215%.

So sad to see that Barcelona is back in lockdown.

I fear this is the future for all of us.....

The Australians have apparently decided to make the same mistakes as the Americans. In June, they were running a new case average between 60 to 80 cases per day. This week, they've been running 300-500 new cases per day. That may not seem like a lot by American and Brazilian standards but that's how it starts and before you know it, it's thousands of cases per day.

Australians are ignoring self-isolation guidelines. Coronavirus cases are climbing. [WaPo]
Australia confirmed more than 500 cases of the novel coronavirus Wednesday, marking the country’s largest single-day increase in cases yet.

Nearly all the new cases were diagnosed in Victoria state, where infection numbers have recently started to rise, alarming officials. Melbourne, the state’s capital, started a six-week lockdown this month in an effort to slow the spread of the virus, but cases have continued to increase.

As of Wednesday, people are required to wear masks in public in Melbourne. If the numbers do not come under control, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews warned Wednesday, the restrictive measures “will run for much longer than that.”

Andrews pleaded Wednesday for people to follow isolation guidelines. Between July 7 and July 21, he said, nearly 90 percent of people who tested positive in Victoria state did not self-isolate between when their symptoms began and when they were tested. More than 50 percent of people who tested positive in that same period, he said, did not self-isolate between when they were tested for the virus and when they got their results.

"Advised"... not "told"... yet :rolleyes: You are posting a piece of news of exactly one week ago. "The future for all of us" is trying to figure out how to:

-deal with this first wave (which is not over, just slowed down) while we fear for a second one;

-make people understand that there can not be any restoration of pre-2020 conditions, like there had been no back-to-2000 or back-to-2007;

-try to accept the fact that infection will continue to extend... while trying to avoid a real total lockdown.

Amsterdam is being closed to visitors too BTW...

And here and there...

Actually, today we had a sort of mock April 23

So it is not like we are actually leaving the streets deserted... for better or for worse.

Fauci was right. The US would eventually reach over 100,000 cases per day (although this is more likely due to verification and timing of recording from John Hopkins, particularly when the following day has a figure back down around 50,000 cases.
