As the saying goes, all politics is local. Which makes no sense, but that is how the saying goes. And American down-ballot races often make for some of the most horrifying, entertaining, uplifting and down right baffling exercises in democracy.

So they should have there own thread. For every level from dog-catcher to Congress.

Who are the ones to watch for this year?

Let us pray...

...Der Jeebbus in whom I disbelieve please watch over and bless Colin Allred in his crusade to save your holy self from the imposture of Cancun Teddy. I'm not asking for much, just a few points at the polls - I'm not asking for a landslide or anything, and in return I will give a few dollars to some homophobic Christian charity next Christmas, That's how serious I am - and really, isn't that just self-interest on your part and on behalf of Daddy who Teddy swears has "chosen" him to vacation in the tropics while Texas freezes? I will omit the obvious and easy jokes about that place which we must not name freezing over...

Love to Mom

Amen.

The news tonight is, Cori Bush has been ousted from Congress by Wesley Bell. Bell is the two term Saint Louis Country prosecutor. He is a more traditional, sensible Democrat with a good reputation. He advocates for a lot of progressive positions but also is willing to compromise to get things done. I voted for him. When Dobbs was passed and Missouri was the first state to ban abortion, Bell stepped up and said, I'm not prosecuting any abortion cases that may come up in my jurisdiction. Bush pissed off a lot of voters by not voting for the Infrastructure bill and against raising the debt limit.

There is virtually zero chance he will not be elected in November. The Missouri 1st District, which is Dick Gephardt's old district, is a blue island in a sea of Missouri red.

One race I'll be curious to keep an eye on is one in Florida, where Jen Perelman is running in the primary for a House seat held by Debbie Wasserman Schultz. This, alone, would be enough for me to vote for Perelman.

But past this, she has a progressive platform, including Medicare for All. I don't know much about her, but on the surface, this I'd be willing to consider voting for her, unlike most of the others in her party.

Jen Perelman for Congress / Issues

Good luck to her in the race.

Meanwhile in Arizona, Reuben Gallego leads Kari Lake, 56% to 41%, according to the new Fox News survey.

Perfection.

And a good sign for the Dems.

:rotflmao:

It's pretty sad when Fox has become the 'Pubby crow of doom.

Let's all hope is just gets worse for Kari from here. I'd like to see her go down in flames all the way back to hell.

A newly released FOX News poll has Democrat Ruben Gallego up massively in the Arizona Senate race. The poll, released on Wednesday evening, showed Gallego beating Lake by a margin of 56% to 41% in the upcoming race to replace Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. The same poll showed former President Donald Trump down by one to Vice President Kamala Harris.

Beat Me to IT!

And Gallego isn't putting up with GQP bullshit.

"Shut your seditious, QAnon-loving mouth." That's how Ruben Gallego fired back after Marjorie Taylor Greene called Democrats the "enemy within" and claimed their policies put "America last."

Ruben didn’t hold back: "I was trying to figure out what type of pen to stab your friends with if they overran us on the floor of the House of Representatives while trying to conduct a democratic transition of power."

Missouri keeps the abortion amendment on the ballot.

The Catholics are shitting their pants.

There was a ruling by Judge Christopher Limbaugh last week to take the initiative off the ballot. Does that name sound familiar? Yep, cousin to the late Rush Limbaugh and great-grandson of Rush Limbaugh Sr. Secretary of State of Jay Ashcroft (son of John Ashcroft, W's AG) had already struck it from the ballot and removed it from the state website, after being the one to approve it. Rush Limbaugh was born in Cape Girardeau, MO and his radio shows were broadcast here earlier than most other venues, giving him a greater influence on our state. This is just one reason why Missouri politics are so F'd up.

Fortunately, the Missouri Supreme Court still retains some independence and apparently gave Ashcroft a tongue lashing, saying he can't do that, after overruling Limbaugh and putting the abortion initiative back on the ballot.

Just a reminder.

Some of the down ballot races will determine who will be president and how effective they will be.

Don't be sloppy.

So little about the House races. As some have noted, The Dems picked up some flipped seats so this is about the best that could be hoped for given the staggering number of Dem voters that stayed home. There are some resignations that need to be filled, but omne suspects the GQP to turn out in force to hold the margin they have.

Of course, it will likely result in more GQP infighting over the Speaker and Mike johnson shouldn't likely expect a lot of support from the Dems.

Interesting that they are trying to kick the spending authorization out to March now.

Republicans also did not significantly improve their numbers in the House. The current count is Republicans 220, Democrats 214, with one seat still not called.
The last House seat was just called. The Democrat in CA-13 won by 187 votes.

That puts the House at R-220 D-215. Two House Republicans are nominated for Administration positions and a 3rd, Matt Gaetz, has resigned.

For comparison, the 2022 results were R-222 and D-213. For 2020, it was R-212 and D-220.

The 2022 Republican majority was a shitshow and one of the historically least productive Houses. With a slimmer majority than 2022, the future doesn't look much better.

Of course Trump intends to bypass Congress so it won't really matter.
