tonight's 2 hour episode tests the premise of "how far do you go" with suspected terrorists

who are prepared to kill innocent lives

jack bauer knows best ;)

if nothing else, it's great tv

and perhaps some political/policy lessons learned

Re: 24 - not just a show

Unfortunately, I've heard this same tripe from so many conservatives about how "Jack Bauer" would "fix" something.

And frankly, I think this is a very honest, accurate, insightful phenomenon into the minds of neo-cons/Bush supporters/religious righters. They honestly think that the "fuck em and nuke em" mindset needs to be utilized almost quarterly. For them, given their severe lack of decent education they need every world problem to be solvable in 60 minutes, and explainable in a 15 second sound byte. They believe there are extremely simple (I call them naive or childlike) solutions for the most complicated, history laden, problem in the world. Their world is black and white. Right and wrong. Right and left. Conservative and progressive. Caucasian and non-Caucasian. That's why the Republican party has become the spokesperson for the uneducated, white, trailer trash, redneck sentiment.

Never once have I seen a progressive politics person invoke "Jack Bauer" as any kind of a guide into how extremely difficult political choices should be made.

thanks for the dime store "analysis"

watch the show and then type ur simplistic prose

if it still applies

but it won't

and i really do the love the "uneducated, white, trailer trash, redneck" comment

as it does show all just how superior u find urself

Re: 24 - not just a show

My (well not really my more like the network's) on-screen TV synopsis for tonight's 8:00 PM US West Coast Time showing of "24" says --

Bauer continues to try to root out conspirators inside the government...Meanwhile, the country faces another terror threat...

........now I gotta' watch :eek: ........I wondered what I wuz' gonna' do this evenin' ........the FOX Network announcer just said that tonight's episode of "24"
"...is one night America will never forget"

"...somebody find my pants, I got work to do"
Jack aka "Jack from Jack in the Box"(!)

Re: 24 - not just a show

it's really good

Re: 24 - not just a show

I still got two hours to show time here...........enjoy!

Bart: "Mom am I a butch or a femme"
Marge: "You can be anything you want to be"
:=D:

Re: 24 - not just a show

This coming from a poster that has never quite figured out capitalization, sentence structure, and grammar? Thanks mate! I'll make sure I weigh that with the requisite gravitas a soul searching individual such as yourself require.

One thing I did forget to mention however, Jack Bauer ISN'T REAL! "HE'S" FICTION!

capitalization is for the weak ;)

as for gravitas .............

not sure u can pull it off

as for jack bauer

he's fucking awesome

turn it on

unless u think it's just a show for rednecks

Re: 24 - IS just a show

Sorry....I just had to...the topic was bugging the hell out of me.. It **IS** just a TV show. No, we aren't doomed to attack from all the evils in the world just because Bushy boy is not longer in office, no matter what all the doomsday people are saying. Is there a chance? Sure, there is *ALWAYS* a chance. Until all the terrorists are gone, there will always be a chance. That chance would of been there if McCain got into office too, so it doesn't matter who is in office. And, yeah..I agree with Molten..Learn how to properly form a post so its grammatically correct, and then people won't insult your intelligence.

For the record, I did not watch... I never really got into 24, and I can't stand Kiefer Sutherland

Didn't Republican John McCain say that life isn't "24 and Jack Bauer"?

However, the FOX Execs definitely try to insert their Republican, Neoconservative political ideology into the show. I get a chuckle every time President Taylor is on screen trying to defend her action in getting the United States involved in affairs around the World, that doesn't concern the United States. Seems all too familiar ... like the last Administration that just got voted out, for those same reasons.

No, I do not think that, do not twist my words around, or take something from my post that isn't there. All I said was the way you post, you make yourself look every un-educated.

Am I smarter than others? Sure...are there others smarter than me? Oh HELL yeah, WAY smarter.

Actually, for the most part, the FOX Televesion is very liberal, take for example shows like Family Guy & The Simpsons, or back in the day Married...With Children. Its the Fox News Channel that is uber conservative

tech........I know what you mean about not caring for certain performers........for me it is Ben Affleck flicks that are not high priority........for some unknown reason I just cannot relate to Ben........

........30 (or there abouts) minutes 'til Showtime (or should I say FOXTime) :corn: <I luv the popcorn image>

the fox execs?

24 is created by joel surnow and robert cochran ......... not fox execs

rupert murdoch doesn't write the scripts

IF u did watch the show u would see that bill buchanan, jack bauer's associate could not bring himself to torture the suspect "i just can't do it jack"

it's not all one way

they have fbi agent larry moss, who is against torture

they don't canonize jack bauer who clearly has his demons

so it seems that u don't watch the show - to me anyway

because u don't seem to see the point that they are debating the issue constantly - this issue anyway - in a big way this season - and they r showing both sides

Re: 24 - not just a show

How very true.................most folks I know (can't say all) fight off :help: some sort of demons.................I got groups of them (I think) but maybe it is just one huge monster after all.................get back you beasties you :D .................5 minutes to show :corn: and I'm already almost out of popcorn :help:  .................

Re: 24 - not just a show

Chance... Freeze!

With your hands where I can see them, walk slowly towards the sound of my voice. No sudden moves.Fade to tackle, cuff and arrest..

I never watched the show, but even if I did...IT'S JUST A SHOW.Your not saying we should consult Jack Bauer on sticky foreign policy issues are you?

Not like it's 'Rescue Me'' or anything..Tommy Gavin would kick Jack Bauer's ass.

At least Tommy would call him a flake before he kicks him down a flight of stairs..

Get your heros right Buddy Boy.

he's NOT my hero

well maybe a little

watch the show ............. it's grrrrrrrrrrrreat

tommy gavin is a more "real" character - i will give u that - and loved when he lept over the table to tackle his brother - who had his hand on tommy's ex wife's leg - under the table - and when tommy knelt down to pick up something saw it - and thus launched across the table - and then beat the living piss out of his brother - cuz that's what mics do

so perhaps we're in agreement there

tommy vs. jack

how bout a ppv?

Re: 24 - not just a show

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh............I can't hear the TV :D :corn: <I made more>

Fox has to approve the show before production begins. Standards & Practicies at ANY major network has a major say on what does..or doesn't get on the air. So, network execs DO have some say in any episode of any television show

I actually have watched the show since it's inception, thank you.

And where as those like Larry Moss try to say "Don't Torture" ... Jack Bauer always proves that in order to do what must be done, there is no other alternative other than to torture. So clearly, it is a shot at Liberalism, and implies that Liberalism doesn't work.

Now, as far as your claims about FOX ... I'm sorry but who's Network is it on? That's right. It's on FOX's Network. Do you honestly think FOX does not exert any influence on the show's direction? Pretty naive, Chance.

Re: 24 - not just a show

first season was great...but just like most shows.....it had nowhere to go after season 1....

Re: 24 - not just a show
