Re: 24 - not just a show

the fox execs?

24 is created by joel surnow and robert cochran ......... not fox execs

Joel Surnow accompanied Rush Limbaugh on his Viagra holiday to the Dominican Republic:

29 Viagra pills, two "24" producers among radio star's all-male crew... JULY 6--Rush Limbaugh was traveling with four other men--including the producers of the hit show "24"--when he was detained over a mislabeled bottle of Viagra found in his luggage during a Customs search. A Department of Homeland security passenger manifest shows that Limbaugh and his four buddies flew from the Dominican Republic on a Gulfstream IV jet owned by Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates his radio program. Limbaugh returned to Palm Beach, Florida on June 26 with Joel Surnow, "24"'s co-creator and executive producer and Howard Gordon, another of the Fox hit's executive producers (Hollywood agent Jeffrey Benson was also part of the Limbaugh quintet). With all those guys in tow, it is unclear what Limbaugh needed with those 29 100mg Viagra pills. The passenger manifest was among several documents released today by the Palm Beach County State's Attorney in response to a TSG open records request. Included in the material released were a copy of the handwritten statement Limbaugh provided investigators after he was detained upon the discovery of the impotency drug. An affidavit sworn three days later by Limbaugh was also released. In that document, Limbaugh explains that the Viagra "was intended for my exclusive use" and that the drug had been prescribed in the name of his drug treatment doctor, Steven Strumwasser, "to further maintain and protect my privacy."...

Re: 24 - not just a show

capitalization is for the weak ;)

as for gravitas .............

not sure u can pull it off

as for jack bauer

he's fucking awesome

turn it on

unless u think it's just a show for rednecks

Well, you think it's awesome because some hunky american agent goes around killing people who are against your fine  country, which appears to get you off, considering the show is only extending the inevitable failure(in ratings, Fox won't drop it because it fit's their belief system too much). I personally find it quite dull and repetitive, at least, the few episodes I could actually force myself to watch.

Re: 24 - not just a show

chance?

It's just a show.
Don't listen to him Chance! Jack Bauer called me last night. He wants you to meet him at 8 pm EST in Managua, Nicaragua next Monday in front of the Palacio Nacional museum. He said you should pack light but be sure to wear your tinfoil pyramid hat and double secret decoder ring.

Re: 24 - not just a show

Well, since it seems a good idea to run our country based off of things we see on TV I suggest from now on all presidents should choose their cabinets by having possible nominees go through reality tv-esque challenges such as modelling competitions a la America's Next Top Model and physical challenges like Gladiators.

kiefer sutherland doesn't do it for me

seems asexual to me ;)

doesn't get me "off" - i enjoy the excitement though for sure - but not in a "get off" way

fits their belief system? only so much as it does a good rating and advertisers want to be in it - and pay a lot to be in it - and it is a unique concept - each show being 1 hour - very cool

as for dull and repetitive .................. i find the incessant president obama boot licking pretty dull and repetitive

are there any good canadian tv show??

Re: 24 - not just a show

'24' is a great, exciting show and Jack Bauer is a flawed, complicated character. The show makes one think how far we will go in terms of getting information for national security purposes. It just sort of throws it out there, like it or not. I think the current storyline is very topical in lieu of our country's debate on torture. I don't see the show as trying to teach us anything, as much as opening our minds to two very different viewpoints on how to go about our nation's business.

I do not think the network has any undue influence on the direction of the show. TV writers, regardless of their own political views, are not about to let someone tell them how to write. If it leans in one direction, that is what the writers themselves want.

Oh yah, that's such a unique concept  . And it's Fox, no shit their gonna have a show that in a sense glorifies torture of suspected terrorists.

Heh, play your game with someone else, I don't 'lick his boot', I argue against quite stupid statements made by certain individuals who shall remain nameless.

There are quite a few that I enjoy watching, like Trailer Park Boys, Rent a Goalie, and Blood Ties. I just don't watch them religiously, I try to expand my mind through stimulation, not through a screen.

Re: 24 - not just a show

Eye of the beholder, sweetcheeks.

It bored me to tears.

i guess i could give u the barack obama equivalent .............

much like the new president ........24 is a tremendously popular show - with the american public - all those people can't be wrong can they? ;)

i wasn't clear - the "uniqueness" is the real time - how the show takes place over a real one hour period - far as i know it was the first and only - kinda neat

so much happens in one hour

my "licking of boots" was more aimed at the JUB CE+P group in general as the new president ever since the primary and thru now can literally do no wrong

which is tres dangerous ........

and i agree with expanding ur mind thru "stimulation" - very much agree ;)

Or Deputy Sheriff's named Barney.

Re: 24 - not just a show

I've watched 24 since the beginning and I think it is a terrific show. I also tend to be quite liberal politically. In the circumstance presented on the show where information to prevent an attack happening in 10 minutes must be obtained, I guess I can go along with the whatever-it-takes philosophy. However, in real life, not a TV show, how often does that actually occur? Maybe it does and I don't have any way to know, but somehow I think now really that often. I don't see how a fictional TV show can be used to justify those kind of interrogation techniques outside of the immediate threat scenario. So lets be a little practical here. Torture for the sake torture because it works on 24 is idiotic. Real life doesn't happen as fast as 24. But coercive interrogation in the face of imminent threat could be realistic, but rarely occurs. That's my view anyway even though I really know squat about it.

Re: 24 - not just a show

tomorrow night boys - another 2 hour "event"

with back to backs (hours) of 24

last we left pres. juma coerced madame president to come out from safe hiding (with jack) o/w he threatened to kill her daughter (who she is estranged from)

the dopey madame of course did the dopey thing and came out

and now the bad guy is gonna make her embarrass herself and then kill her and her daughter

i think

anyway ............. guaranteed that jack saves the day

guaranteed

guessing somebody dies - somebody important

cuz that's what happens on 24

might be bill buchanan

hope not - i like him

anyway ................

enjoy

Re: 24 - not just a show

^ TV Guide says it's only an hour. House at 7, 24 at 8 (central time).

I'm guessing the daughter gets killed.

Could be Aaron, Senator whats-his-name or Bill Buchanan. But I'm guessing the daughter to re-enforce the idea that she would still be alive if the President had let Jack do-his-job. We'll see.

oops - i stand corrected

guess i was just hoping for 2 hours ;)

I don't watch House but I hear it's very good

my "guess" is the daughter CANNOT get killed - as the President's son is already dead (murdered once thought suicide) and her husband is in critical condition - how much can they put this poor lady through after all

would hate to see aaron go - he's great

and Bill - well Bill is like family ;)

interesting take on the daughter so that Jack's methods would conceivably have lead to her safety ........... hmm - perhaps

hope you're watching

i will be

Re: 24 - not just a show

You would like House. I hope they don't actually kill Madame President. I like her a lot. I'll be DVD'ing it. I have something else to do tomorrow evening. I'll come back when I've watched it.

Re: 24 - not just a show

House is extremely good and funny, and pretty easy to pick up on if your coming in half way through a season, but I suggest watch from the beginning if you can.

Re: 24 - not just a show

bill buchanan bit the dust

gave up his life to create a diversion so jack could save madame president

really good shit

so everything is ok now

not really

everything is not ok
