I'll stick with my original thoughts that almost 100% are fair upright decent human beings.

That figure is based on what exactly, I would hope not sincere ignorance. Becoming a police officer is strikingly simple in the US, any psycho can jump through the few low-hanging hoops that they have and consequently American police stay in the news for corruption, violence, abuse, sexual assault, DUI, drug charges, misuse of firearms or force and the nauseatingly blinded-by-the-badge taxpayers get to foot the bill for all the settlements. And we're not even going to talk about the domestic violence statistics. But by all means if it gives you a boner to be contrarian for its own sake and give the US police force a blanket thumbs up they don't deserve for no other reason than the aforementioned contrarianism that's your right. Luckily for you you have a very small likelihood of being victimized by police. FOR NOW. Again, I issue a stern warning that the longer we turn a blind eye to this it will grow and get worse and it won't just be black people who tremble when they see those blue lights. Alas, I know the American tradition is to wait until a problem becomes immeasurably large or bleeds into Waspville to take notice. For reference see the environment, the economy, politics, sexual abuse, et cetera.

My drug dealer in a christian high school I was sent to for doing drugs is now a detective, imagine that. Ever have a cop laugh about you or a friend getting gay bashed?

cue the apologia in t-minus... oh look it arrived early if we can call a spade a spade for a moment, white gays have a seemingly limitless supply of empathy and sensitivity but almost exclusively for other white people, if an incident like this happened to one, just one gay white person they'd march and lobby and protest until "Connor's Law" is passed, to ensure that such an injustice never happens [to another white person] ever again. as for brown people, for the most part outside of the penis they have little care or concern for us. check the history books, there's never been a widespread movement by white people or white gays against racial injustice, never, so when we log onto a website with a predominantly white population it's expected to find casual "so what?" attitudes about things like this. those who "get it" or show sympathy are the exception that prove the rule.
