3 Strikes

It really sounds like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders when you should be able to enjoy your age and your life.
My response might be simplistic (or defeatist) but it sounds like you have to change your environment.
You can't change your race and a one man campaign won't help you or the cause, so the only option is moving somewhere that will be more compatible.
Atlanta is supposed to be a gay oasis in the South. Jobs are probably better than Alabamas and you'll still be close enough to go home on weekends if you want to.
Good luck, and I truly hope you find contentment and happiness.

Yeah, that has been arguably considered, but I've spent enough time in Atlanta to know it is no better than any other Southern major city aside from Miami (due to cultural influence from the Carribbean). FYI, Atlanta ain't that big of a gay oasis from my own person experience. Anyways, I actually like it in Birmingham, but I realize like everywhere else that it is no better when it comes to race. Actually, the job market and long-term career aspects are better here than Atlanta.

Back to the topic, I'm just going to keep my options open and rather focus on bettering myself as I already mentioned. I think my "me time" is actually better for me in the long run anyways. ;)

As I said, so much of what we enjoy as equal rights today started at Stonewall and the march never stops. Society never changes if we don't change society. Somewhere out there, there has to be a black Baptist minister who understands that the ten Commandments and Christianity have nothing to say about homosexuality and will start to change the world. Somewhere there must be strong black men (unfortunately Obama appears not to be one of them), who will lead by example and declare that the macho hetero centric obsession is atavistic and counter-productive.

Until that day, we'll have to rely on you, one person at a time, trying to make a difference.

I agree, but Obama just has bad people on his campaign staff and he should take note of that with the recent SC fiasco. He has proven to me when I watched and listened to him to know that he understands this about black folks. However, he is trying to unite all people which sometimes is very difficult.

Back to topic, I do when others make ignorant and uninformed commons about homosexuality. I simply tell them that it is not true, and that they need to get out more and realize that people are not that cut-and-dry.

I suggested Atlanta because it is close to Alabama.
I lived there for 10 years and came out there and found my first lover there (8 years).
The population has many people from smaller towns in surrounding states who went there for job opportunities and many who fled small town discrimination.
There are also many "transplants" from all over the country because it is the SE Regional Office of many companies and it has the largest airport between DC, Chicago, Dallas and Miami.
So you undoubtedly get a greater mix of people than in the rest of the Bible Belt.
Atlanta didn't get the label "The city too busy too hate" just for laughs.
Sure Miami is an option, so are New Orleans and Dallas, but Atlanta is probably more conveniently located for the OP.
Since he can't change his race (and why should he?) and can't singlehandedly change the inherent Bible Belt psychology and culture, the only plausible change is a change of venue.

Unclaimedblessing, I really appreciate your recommendation. However, Atlanta is a city with an extremely high-cost of living beyond my means, and it is also running out of water as it is in the middle of a extraordinary drought. The most affordable places in Atlanta now aren't even in the city at all, but far in the suburbs. Finally, the traffic and commute is unbearable, and I've experienced it first hand to know. I would much rather stay in Birmingham, as I love the place, and it is much more affordable and potential as "place to be" than Atlanta.

Thanks, but let's get back to the topic at hand.
