Re: Movie "300"

the true story was used to make a graphic novel

the movie is based on a fictional graphic novel recounting the true events

it was made by the same guy that made sin city

Re: Movie "300"

OMG I just got back from this movie....

The best way to descibe it is this......

An orgasmic ballet of chaos and beauty with intricacies woven in that only Frank Miller could have given birth to.....

EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS MOVIE....

it was weird for me to see because i am half greek half persian

didnt know what to think

Re: Movie "300"

Saw it, Not since LOTR have I been to a movie that I said "WoW" so many times. The Spartans were ridiculously fit. You are damn skippy I came back from the movie and did some abs. Loved it

This movie was unbelievable. It was waaaay waaay more than I expected (and I expected a lot). Even if it had no storyline or dialogue and all I had to do was just watch the beautiful scenes, I'd still think it was great. However, the storyline and characters are both amazing and very well done. It is so intense visually even during the calm scenes, I've never seen anything like it.

....not the mention EVERY Sparton Warrior was dressed in a red cape and leather underwear. They all had amazing bodies and 6 packs...it was so hot.

great movie. Go watch it!

Re: 300

is it just me? or did anybody else saw the couple of soldiers who were kind of flirting? I just came hme from watching the movie and it was like, wow. It's like there should have been a greater and well known producer for that movie. becasue it was great, the visuals, the scenes, it all blends together... My friend, who's a girl, noticed that there was something about the two soldiers... i dunno.. it was funny we were always grining when we see them in the movie:D

Re: 300

Meh.

I saw a late showing at the Chinese Theater last night, good crowd, pretty fun movie. But that's about it.

I never read the 'graphic novel,' so I am judging it just as a film. Entertaining, but nothing more. It was hokey ... but not quite hokey enough if it was going in that direction. The battle scenes were cool, the buff men were gorgeous ... but the most interesting part to me was the prologue about Spartan ritual upbringing ... and there didn't seem to be any fascinating revelations about Spartan way-of-life for the rest of the film. (There were plenty of over-the-top revelations about Persian ways-of-life ... but these were only good for a laugh and much rolling of eyes.)

The "graphic" look of the film was ok ... but nothing nearly as beautiful and bitchin' cool looking, imo, as the similar comic-book visual treatment in Sin City.

As for just gayboy thrills ... I was a bit disappointed. There were a lot of hot bods on those near-naked Spartans ... but as pointed out in this thread - without good faces to match, the worked-out battle bodies weren't all that arousing to me.

But, whew, there was one really gorgeous Spartan soldier ... the young son of the Captain, barely old enough for battle, full of warrior prowess and please-fuck-me studliness. I hope it's not a terrible spoiler to say that he meets an untimely end. The point of the movie is that all 300 die.

The film will likewise die pretty quickly from my memory ... but it was a fun night at the movies.

Re: 300

i rather enjoyed the movie myself. i mean its not everyday that you see a film filled to the brim with hot, buff guying running around in leather underwear and a cape and looking mighty good to boot. I also rather enjoyed the scene with the lead actor standing in the moonlight butt ass naked for all to see and some to enjoy. :sex:

I wanna check out more about 300 and see the premise and everything behind it.

Re: 300

I bought the tickets. I'll see it tonight.

I am aware of the historical inacuracies, but it is a Hollywood film after all.

And it is an adaption of a comic book based on a piece of history, not based on history itself.

But I did love Sin City so I'm curious to see how this collaboration works out.

Re: 300

I didn't think it was all that.. Cinematography was grade A, fight scenes were cool, but other than that I didn't care for it.. everyone's makin such a big deal about it.. I wasn't impressed..

Re: 300

I didn't much see the point of it being all computer graphic everything, except the actors.

Sin City had a distinct comic-book look that could never have been achieved otherwise. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, which comes the closest to the 300 style of full animation sans actors, depicted far more fantasticness that arguably was better computer-generated than model-built.

But 300, with a few exceptions, merely replicated locales and looks that have been easily achieved with other photographic and effects means. It simply didn't look all that amazing ... but maybe it perfectly reflected the comic book. ???

I think I'd like to see the gay eye-candy edit of about 30 minutes. I don't feel like sitting through the whole picture again.

Re: 300

I must say it was a visually stunning film!

The special effects and the way it was done visually it was different and spectacular...
As usual with this films, it was very inacurate historically, some of it to make it more politically correct and some of it because warrior heroes cannot be gay. In hollywood, gays are still soft and sensitive!
The story, it was not War and Peace, but I was expecting less, so it was a pleasant surprise, although still thin!
At the end of the film I was overwhelmed by the visual power of the film!

I must say, though, I saw it on an IMAX screen, so bear that in mind!

Re: 300

Actually, I'm surprised at how historically accurate it really was ... with no more dramatic license applied than I would expect from a movie ... much less one adapted from a comic book!

Events were mixed up and moved around. Standard stuff. The main difference between the comic / movie and history seems to have been the 700 "Thespians" who stayed to fight with the Spartans at the last stand. The comic eliminated them for dramatic effect of elevating the Spartans (heheh, or perhaps because "1000" was not as cool a title).

But where are you getting that any of the real Spartans were gay? I could understand wishful thinking .... but is that pleasant assumption based on anything but hope?

Homosexuality wasn't just common in Sparta, it was mandatory

Every male citizen of Sparta between the ages of seventeen and fifty was a full-time soldier. Prior to this, the boys underwent seven years of military training under one of the toughest educational regimes ever seen in the world. As part of this training, they were "encouraged" to enter into a physical relationship with one of their class-mates, on the grounds that you would fight more fiercely to protect a lover than anyone else.

Many of these relationships lasted long into adulthood, so that when the time came for them to marry, they didn't want lo leave their boyfriends....

Re: 300

It was customary in Sparta to have the new brides dressed as men in their first night, since that it was what their husbands where used to!

It was also inacurate to have a woman speak and be so forceful in Sparta or any Greek city! The only women who were allowed a degree of freedom where the prostitutes. A decent wife would not be required to behave modestly. Think Afghanistan w/o the cute covers!

Re: 300

I too thought the movie was much more than I expected. I certainly like it better than Sin City. I want to see them remake Dune in the same cinematic style as the 300. I checked out the soundtrack to 300 online, its worth a listen.
